Chapter 25
Previously;
"I think it's safe to say that...Even God don’t know where we're goin',And I sure as hell don’t care.'Cause if you and I could stay this high with heaven in our headlights,I swear that we can make it anywhere," even the driver joined in for the chorus and we all sang the rest of the song together at the top of our lungs, laughing at eachother whenever our voices cracked.
"No! You can't take it away from me!" Alice cried as the driver attempted to take away our phones and keys. I hadn't ever gotten a new phone after Lucas broke mine so I had nothing to deal with.
"Why do you need it anyway?" Kylie asked protectively clutching her phone to hee chest. Everyone had handed in their keys but only Shawn had handed in his phone. Charlie, Jenny and I all didn't have any so that wasn't a problem. It was just Dylan, Tara, Kylie and Alice who refused to part with their phones.
"Tyler may be able to track you if you keep your phones, I promise we will get you new ones," the driver said but they all shook their heads in unison. "You are being ridiculous!" The driver demanded.
"Tara," Shawn said and she handed him her phone sadly. Alice kissed the screen of her phone and then reluctantly handed it in as well. Then Kylie and Dylan slowly handed them up. Then the driver pulled over took the bag and threw it in a large trash bin in McDonald's. Alice looked as if she were about to cry.
"Why couldn't you just check them for bugs and then return them?" Kylie asked as he slowly got back into the car.
"I don't know if you understand this but witness protection means we are severing all your ties to clarity falls," he said shutting his door and then speeding off.
After that the mood sobered a bit as they sobered the loss of their phones.
"Do you have any food in that magic bag of yours?" I asked Alice. It was getting late and most people were asleep, but I had never been good at sleeping in moving vehicles and it turns out both Alice and thankfully the driver felt the same way.
"Nope you shouldn't have eaten your pop tarts right away," Alice said. It was officially 11:00 and I hadn't had anything to eat since my pop tart unless you counted a bottle of water.
"How was I supposed to know that was the last thing I was going to eat?" I asked her defensively.
"It is witness protection they aren't going to just move us a few towns down," Alice said setting her bag on the ground.
"I thought we would at least make pit stops," I said as I crossed my arms and looked pointedly at the driver. If I knew I would have at least rationed my water.
"We had drive far enough away to be sure we weren't being followed, tomorrow morning you will all be eating a nice breakfast before you catch a plane to your final destination," the driver said who's name he still refused to tell us. Dylan named him Thomas, lord knows why, and Dylan's explanation was simply. 'He looks like a Thomas to me.'
"WooHoo!" I cheered for my empty stomach.
"Shhhh," Alice exclaimed pointing to the sleeping people around us. Shawn snorted lightly, and Kylie's head was resting on Dylan's shoulder. Tara even looked almost peaceful.
"Well if we are getting breakfast in the morning..." Alice trailed off as she pulled a bag of skittles out of her bag of mystery. I clapped.
