When I woke up, I saw that the seatbelt light was on. . . . And we were about to land! I didn't put my seatbelt on before I went to sleep! I looked down, seeing Dad had already buckled me. The plane started its decent, which felt a little more gradual then the ascent. We had finally arrived at the airport.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we have landed at Sawyer International airport. You may take off your seat belts now. Have a nice day." We waited for the plane to connect to the building, then all piled out. This airport didn't look as good as the Cali one did, but it wasn't bad. After I made it into the building, I put my bag on the ground, I waiting for the sea of people to part so I could see where my family was. After a couple of minutes, I finally saw them. I waved so they knew where I was, and they waved back, meaning they saw me. When they finally broke free of the people sea, they came to me.
"Holy crap! I didn't know there would be this many people!" Dad said as he pulled up with his suitcase. "Kind of like going on a vacation.... Except the moving vans will be here too...so a BIG vacation!"
I guess that's one way to look at it. I looked around at the people walking past us. I guess most of the people were natives who were going on vacation, because they had hats, jackets and tennishoes.
"Why are THEY so bundled up?" My twelve year old brother Aaron asked, cranky and ready to go to bed.
"I don't know." I said as I compared my clothes with the natives' clothes. They had tennishoes, I had flip flops. They had jackets, I had a crop top. Great. I wasn't even out of the airport and I was ALREADY an outsider.
"It's summer, the weather can't possibly be so bad." Mom said as she dragged her suitcase towards mine. I looked outside. There was white stuff on the ground. Oh no, it was snow. Which means that it must be cold.
"Guys, it's snowing. I think it's that bad." "Well, vacation over. Time to go back to Cali!" I sat on my suitcase.
"Oh wow. I wonder if we can get winter things here...." Mom looked around. "Excuse me, sir, but do you know where we could get some winter clothes?"
The guy looked dazed and confused. "Oh, oh yeah, yeah. There's the Marquette Mall in Marquette." He eyed us up and down, "You guys tourists or somethin'?" He gave a side smile. It looked ALMOST like Corey's, but Corey's smile was better. Ugh, how I missed his smile. How I missed HIM!
"Actually, we came up here from California, and we're moving here." Mom gladly told the stranger our life.
He chuckled. "You came up here, from Cali? Hahaha, oh God. Have you ever been through a Michigan winter?"
"No, no I don't believe so...."
"Ha ha ha ha! You guys are gonna have fun when winter rolls 'round! Good luck!" He waved to us as he walked away.
"Wow. THAT guy was helpful!" I said as I dragged my bag.
"Hey! Pick that bag up, will you?!" Mom scolded me. I glared at her but picked up my bag.
