My eyes flew open and I was instantly wide awake. I was slightly surprised, since I didn't usually wake up so quickly, but the surprise was quickly drowned by what I saw before me. I was not in my room.
Around me were cement walls with a big wooden door and a stone floor I was lying on. For some reason, I was wearing my clothes. A black hoodie, jeans and short black boots.
Suddenly, I noticed a small square cut out in the wall. It was just about smaller than my head.
I heard footsteps approaching me. "Right on time," a voice rang out in the emptiness. A face suddenly appeared in the square. The man had dark brown hair and a big sneer on his face.
"Thanks for coming. We like to save space, so you will be moved to your friends shortly. Don't bother asking what's going on," he said, stopping me before I spoke. "I'm not gonna explain this twice. You can ask your friends when you get there."
The door opened and two men dressed in black rushed in. A bag was pulled over my head and I was lead out the door. I heard it shut behind me.
I tried to struggle, but their was always hands to grab me. I was pushed forward.
We walked in rhythm for about 5 minutes, until I heard another door open. I was tossed in, the bag was pulled off my head and the door shut behind me.
"We'll come get you later for a more... formal welcome," the man said as he walked away.
I slowly stood up. There in front of me was Madison, Liam, Nico and Matt.
"What's going on?" I asked. "How did I get here?"
"You kind of... came here by yourself." Madison started. The bewildered expression on my face must have told her that I didn't understand.
"Look, here's what they told us," Liam cut in. "Do you remember that site you found that taught you hypnotism? Well, it's actually a setup by these people. It targets people in the area. The goal of it is to get you to learn hypnotism, while hypnotising you. That's why you were able to learn hypnotism so quickly."
"But why was I hypnotised?" I asked.
"To get you here," Liam explained. "We're not really sure why they want us here, but you were hypnotised with the instructions to hypnotise as many people as possible and give them the same instructions: to come here in the middle of the night. Although we're not sure where "here" is."
I sat back against the wall, speechless.
"You probably can't even remember doing all of this. You were instructed to forget. All of us were. I can't even remember being hypnotised." Madison said.
"We all woke up here. For now, we are trapped."
I said nothing and put my head between my legs. I still couldn't believe what was happening. And that I caused it. I was the reason everyone was here.
Madison seemed to understand what I was feeling, so she said to me,"It's not your fault. It could have happened to anyone. We can all fix this."
I looked up at her and smiled. She always knew what to say. My eye was suddenly caught by Matt and Nico, sitting in the corner, not looking at each other or talking. They hadn't said anything since I arrived.
I stood up and walked over to them. It was only a few steps to the end of the room. I sat down on the floor in front of them.
"Hey..." I started.
"Oh hey," Nico said. He looked me in the eyes for a second and then looked back at the walls.
"I guess you heard about what I did," I said.
"Yep," Nico said, not even looking at me this time. His curly brown hair was standing in every direction.
I sighed. They were obviously feeling invaded, if not angry at me. This was the first time I actually cared what they thought of me.
"Look, I'm sorry," I said. "I didn't mean for this to happen, any of this. I just acted out of spite."
"Look it's just..." Nico's dark brown eyes snapped back towards mine. "It's fine. I can't be mad at you. You know that. Maybe I'd like to, but I can't."
I didn't know how to respond. He was right about that. He couldn't be angry at me. I turned to Matt. He was huddled against the wall, staring into space. He had light blond hair, combed to one side. His soft blue eyes were looking all over, avoiding my gaze.
"You're not you anymore..." I said slowly.
"I, um, I guess not." He stuttered.
Everyone was silent. What was I supposed to say? I ruined two people. 'Sorry about that, better luck next time!' wasn't going to cut it.
I suddenly thought of what happened yesterday.
"Why were you fighting?" I asked. Both of them looked up at me. "Yesterday, at school."
"Oh yeah, that," Nico said, leaning his head against the wall. "Well, back when I was completely smitten with you, and kind of still am, I decided to write you a poem."
Liam gave a soft snort from the other side of the room. Since it was so quiet in the room, it could be heard clearly.
"Yeah yeah, I know," Nico said. "I wasn't really very normal that day. So anyways, I wrote the thing and decided to put it in your locker. It seemed to be easier said than done. I was just about to slip it in, when Matt decided to punch me."
"Why did he punch you?" I asked.
"I think it's better to hear it from him," Nico said with a slight smile.
I turned to Matt again. He didn't seem intent on talking about anything. He even seemed more uncomfortable than usual, avoiding my gaze even more now.
I remembered what he said to Nico when they were fighting: 'Leave her alone!'
"Oh no," I said. "I didn't make you like me too, did I? I'm sorry, I can't even remember half of what-"
"No, no," Matt stopped me. "It's not that... I'm pretty sure that didn't happen." He fell into silence.
Then it hit me. Why was I so stupid?
"Yep," Nico said. "Since he has the inability to speak more than two sentences, I'll have to spell it out. I guess you still don't know why we always teased you. Well, here it is: I knew for a long time that Matt had a crush on you." Nico flinched as he said this. "Even though I'm now burning with jealousy, I didn't mind it back then. I actually helped him to talk to you in the best way I knew how. Seems like it wasn't really taken the right way." His manner suddenly changed. "But I will always be there for you. To proclaim my love in the sweetest of manners and to fight for your heart-" He stopped and slouched against the wall. " Sorry, that's the hypnotism talking. Now that I know about it, it's easier to suppress, but it still kicks in every now and again."
"Maybe I can remove the hypnotism," I suddenly said. "I put it there and I know how to take it away."
"But you still have some whacky stuff in your own head," Liam said from behind me.
"If anything starts to go wrong, just stop me," I replied.
"Yeah," Nico said, sounding hopeful. "That would be good. My feelings are so... empty. I'd like to be rid of it. Let's do it."
"Alright, I'll try doing you first," I said.
Nico sat in front of me. I stared into his dark eyes and snapped my fingers. I remembered that I still left that in his mind to get him under again. His eyes closed and his head lolled to one side.
"Now, when you wake up, you-"
Suddenly, everything went black.
