11. His POV

They were earlier than usual and when they arrived Annie stomped out of the car glaring at the other three. The moment her back was turned, as she angrily walked to the other cheer chicks, Bernie, Lucas and Milly looked at each other and burst out laughing like maniacs. Annie yelled without turning. "I can still hear you!"
Almost as one they chorused. "We looooove you!"
Annie responded loudly with a string of very unladylike words.
Everyone that was outside looked surprised, Annie was so placid normally. This was like watching a beautiful white dove grow fangs and tear strips of a cat. The three idiots she was cursing just laughed louder.

Suddenly Bernie ran after her loudly telling her the other two were big, nasty meanies and he hadn't laughed. Annie stopped and looked up in his face. He tried not to laugh but her angry face was apparently not mean enough because he burst out laughing and grabbing her in a hug before she could hit him. Good strategy, she cracked a smile before worming her way out of his arms and flipping him off, telling him he was just as bad. It was clear now to everyone watching that she wasn't as mad as we'd thought when they arrived.

"That was new." Rafe said clearly intrigued. Suddenly Milly and Lucas were almost at the doors leading into hell. We were standing right beside the doors and Milly looked at us. Lucas and her shared another look and somehow it apparently meant alright. They stepped to the side and just like that, the short girl was standing in front of us.

"Hi Rafe." She said with a crazy grin. "Superman." She nodded at me.
"My friends call me D." I told her.
She frowned and replied. "I'm not your friend."
Lucas smirked at her reply but when she glanced at him there wasn't a trace of it.
"You are apparently my best friend's new friend. That means we have to be friends." I told her childishly.

"What if I want his attention when you want it? I'll tell you what will happen... I'm am so much cooler and I'm new and shiny... and you are all, like, dark and broody and then he will give me his attention and you be all, like, I had him first! And then we'll fight and Rafe will be all sad and then I'll make him feel better because I'm cooler and shiny and I'm better at making people feel better because I'm a girl and it's supposed to be imprinted in my DNA but that will just make you more cranky. Then, you'll start being mean to me because you don't know me, Rafe being the cool guy he is will try to cheer you up and do his best to remain your friend but we won't ever talk and get to know each other so yeah... we aren't friends."

I had nothing. My mouth opened but nothing came out. If Rafe was the type to show his emotions he would have been rolling on the ground laughing so hard he cried. How did I know this? He laughed softly. That was more than he had ever done at school until she came. Surprisingly Lucas saved me from her insane explanation of us not being friends when he patted her head. "Listen Mills, I'm sorry to burst your bubble but there are that many holes in that theory, that it just doesn't float."
"Bull!" She snapped angrily with a huge grin contradicting her tone.
He looked suitably sad and told her. "Your are right that you are cooler but that means he's hotter than you. People like hanging out with other people that are hot because that way they get positive attention."

"Yeah, because I'm the kind of guy that wants positive attention." Rafe drawled drily making her giggle.

"Fine. Guess that wasn't a hole but the new and shiny won't last, you never stay clean."

"That's great I'll fit in better with his dirty looks." She replied making us chuckle but Lucas was determined to point out the flaws and continued as Bernie stepped up behind her casually wrapping an arm around her waist and putting his other hand on her shoulder. I tensed but noticed immediately that she did so too. Lucas hadn't noticed yet.

"You won't be able to make him feel better because you are missing some vital genes that should come with being a girl... don't even think about arguing with that."
