We walked in the house, it was cold. We threw our handbags on the kitchen table, I looked in the cupboards for food. I found a packet of chips, I opened them, ran into the lounge and jumped on the couch, I landed hard on it so it made a bit of a creaking sound.
I heard my phone ringtone play, "Laura, can you pass my phone?". Sure" Laura said, walking into the lounge and chucking my phone at me. "Well, I'm going to bed" Laura said tiredly, walking out of the lounge and down the hallway, I heard her bedroom door close.
I finally answered my ringing phone, "Hello Marshall". "I'm coming to pick you up in five", "Okay", "See you soon", "Yeah, see you". He hung up.
I got off the couch and went to my room. I opened my drawers, I grabbed a pair of underwear and a bra, a white singlet with checkered block letters spelling ' No Love' I brought it off the Eminem website and I also grabbed a pair of black loose jeans. I stripped of my clothes and threw them in the laundry hamper. I slipped on my underwear and jeans, I then put on my bra and singlet, I grabbed a hoodie and put it on. I grabbed my converse sneakers, sat on my bed and pulled them on. I put on some perfume and walked out my room.
I checked my phone, no textes. I heard a car honk from outside, I shoved my phone in my hoodie pocket and walked outside. My face light up when I saw Marshall in his car. I jogged to the passenger side and opened the door.
"Hey", "Hey" Marshall said and then giving me a peck on lips. "Are you ready for this?" Marshall asked reversing out of the driveway. "Marshall, I'm fine, it's only meeting your daughters", "Okay, if you say so".
Marshall turned on the radio, I didn't know any of the songs but I knew it was hip hop.
After a few minutes we were in Marshall's driveway, slowly driving down the gravel driveway. When we reached the mansion, Marshall stopped and parked the car. I took a unsteady breath, I was slightly nervous. What if his daughters didn't like me? What if they thought I was some slut Marshall picked up, or worse?
I lost my thoughts as Marshall placed his hand on mine. "Baby, you 'ight?", "Yeah, just a bit nervous" I quietly mumbled. Marshall have me a tight warm hug. "You'll be fine, the girls will love you.", "Probably not" I barely whispered and looked down at my hands. "Hey", Marshall said while lightly lifting my chin so our eyes meet, "You'll be fine". I sighed and slowly opened the car door, I stepped out of the car and I closed my eyes as the cool Detroit wind blew on my face.
Marshall took my hand and led me to the front door. We paused there for a minute.
After a minute Marshall opened the door.
"Daddy!" a girl yelled and jumped into Marshall's arms. "I missed you", "I missed you too baby girl". "Who's this?" the girl asked. "This is Grace, Grace this is my daughter Whitney". "Hi Whitney" I said, giving her a small wave. "Hi, you can call me Whit, you're really pretty" she said, turning her head away from me and blushing."Aww, thanks and you're really pretty too", "You really think so?" she asked in a shy voice. "Yes, I do". "Yay!" Whitney exclaimed, she stopped hugging Marshall, gave me a quick hug and ran off into the hallway.
"Larnie! Hailie! She's here!".
I heard loud footsteps coming down the stairs. Two teenage girl walked into the kitchen, I only recognized one, it was Hailie, I had seen a couple of photos of her around the house. "Hi",Hailie said giving me a small smile. I smiled back. "So? Are you going to introduce us?", the other teenage girl asked.
"This is--". Marshall got cut off by Whitney. "Grace. Her name's Grace. Grace this is Hailie" she said pointing at Hailie, Hailie gave me a wave and I waved back, "And this is Alarnia, but we call her Larnie". Larnie gave a small smile but she looked like she wasn't really interested. Hailie and Larnie gave Marshall a hug and I saw Hailie whisper something in Marshall's ear but I didn't know what she said.
"Come with me" Whitney said tugging on my hand slightly. "Okay" I agreed, letting her take me where ever she was taking me. We walked up the stairs and she pulled me towards a room. I looked at the door, there were letters on the door spelling 'Whitney', she opened the door and pulled me in and sat me on the bed.
"Are you going to stay?", "What do you mean?" I asked. "Please don't leave, I really like you". she said tears in her eyes. " I won't leave" I said wiping the tears off her face with my thumb. "Mummy said that, but she left", "Oh, honey your mum and your dad just... don't get along". "So you won't leave us and hurt daddy?". "Of coarse not, I don't want to hurt anyone" I said, "Okay" she said. Whitney gave me a tight hug, I hugged her back, I felt tears on my hoodie, I stroked her dirty blonde hair. "By the way I like you to" I said smiling at her, she looked up and smiled back at me. She sat up and wiped the tears of her face.
We heard knocking at the door, "Whit, Grace are you in there?" Marshall asked through the door. "Yeah" I replied, Whitney got off the bed and went to her bathroom, I heard the tap turn off then a minute later turn off. Marshall opened the door and sat next to me, "What are you guys doing?" he asked, "Just talking" I said. "I'll tell you later", I whispered in his ear.
He nodded and the bathroom door opened and Whitney walked out. She went up to Marshall and gave him a hug, "I love you daddy", " I love you too baby" he said then gave her a kiss. I haven't said that to my dad since I was little. Tears started to swell in my eyes, I shook the thoughts away and wiped my eyes. Marshall and Whitney noticed this and the opened up their hug. I laughed and joined their hug. "Dad", "Yeah". " I like this one".
