"Damn, we gotta be careful with these streets then!" Rashida exclaimed that night.

"I know," I said, sitting down. "It's insane."

"They allow people to drive like that?"

I shrugged my shoulders.

"Maybe it was someone rich," I suggested. "The rich get away with everything in San Diego."

"I suppose." She said. "But we need to be careful from now on."

I nodded my head.

My phone vibrated, startling me.

I unlocked it, touching Max's message.

~Max: See you in five? *now

"Who is it?" Rashida asked.

"Max," I said, replying to the message.

~Yes, I'm on my way.

"Uh, where ya going?" She asked.

"I'm going to meet him for coffee," I said, standing up.

"Uh, and food?"

I raised my eyebrows, picking up my purse.

"What about food?" I asked, slinging it over my shoulder.

"It ain't gone' make itself, will it?" She said, looking annoyed.

"That's right. It won't because you will be making it."

"WHAT!? ME!?"

"Yes, you."

"Hell no! I ain't making anythin'! The hell I look like!?"

"Too bad. I walked to the store, so now, you will cook."

"Faith, I can't cook fo' sh*t!"

"That's why we have the internet and Grandma. Remember, she's just a phone call away."

"Girl, you is tripping! I can't cook sh*t! This is unfair!"

"No, it's not. I told you already that you would cook if I were buying groceries. We have to be fair if we are living together."

She groaned into the pillow next to her.

I smiled, waving at her.

"How's the new place?" Max asked at the Coffee House.

"We're managing," I said. "It's hard adjusting all the time."

He agreed, adjusting his glasses.

"I know where you are coming from." He said. "But, you've lived here before. It can't be that hard."

"Yeah, only a year, though," I said.

"I wanted to tell you something very important."

"What's up?"

"I...I..."

I sat up straight, waiting for him to say something other than "I."

"Max, what's up?" I said, touching his hand. "Why do you look nervous?"

"I kind of hid something from you." He said.

I looked at him seriously, removing my hand.

"I...I'm...I'm dating someone."

My eyes widened.

"Really!?" I exclaimed. "That's great. Why are you nervous about it?"

"I'm not." He said, adjusting his glasses. "I just don't know...What you're going to think of the girl..."
