Dad was silent on the drive back, but he listened as I provided him with directions to Gemma's house. He eventually spoke when the car pulled up.
'I'm really sorry about today', I turned away from him looking at Gemma's house. 'I'll call your mum tomorrow, see if we can arrange another meeting. This time, just you, me and Andrew.'
I undid my seatbelt and stepped out of the car.
'Bye Catherine'. I couldn't help thinking that I was reliving the same moment years earlier, when he first left. Part of me, hated.....no hated is too strong, but there was defiantly some strong resentment towards him, but I still loved him and oddly enough I missed him.
I bent down to the window, he looked surprised and fumbled to get to the button, to lower the window. 'Andrew would love that, dad'. I said it with as much passion I could muster, but it wasn't much, just enough to put a smile on him face. 'Bye dad'
I walked away slowly, waiting for the car to depart, before ringing the door bell.
Mrs. Fredericks answered the door.
'Oh, hello dear. Gemma never said you were visiting', she widened the door allowing me to enter, 'you must stay for tea dear'.
'Thanks Mrs Fredericks, but I can't stay too long'
'Oh..that's fine, I'll just bring you girls up some cookies and some fresh lemon juice. Gemma's up in her room'.
'Thanks Mrs Fredericks'. She was always kind and considerate to me when I visited. Probably one of the nicest people I'd met, I figured. Even though Gemma would say she was boring. But then aren't all parents.
