I had almost forgotten, I bit down on one of Mrs Frederick's home made biscuits, it melted in my mouth. Yet another reason why I wanted to live with Gemma.
'Yeah, he turned up, but it didn't go so well'
'Why? What happened?'
I explained to her the awkwardness of the drive and the restaurant, but when I explained who the owner of the restaurant was, her jaw dropped open.
'No way'
'Yes way and she couldn't have been that much older than me'.
'Well, judging from the photos your mum showed me, your dad was always good looking', she said with a sly smile.
'Don't say that, urrgh!'
'I'm just saying'
I had never thought of my dad as being attractive in any shape or form. Once I got sent home from school early, because I was sneezing everywhere and for some reason dad was home with mum, doing dirty stuff. I didn't see anything, but the noises I had heard made me cringe.
That feeling sort of epitomized my feelings about my parents, when it came to anything to do with the opposite sex.
'So, your dads into younger women', she teased, with a huge grin, raising her eyebrows.
I jumped over to her and started tickling her, she curled up in a ball, trying to avoid my agile fingers, screaming for me to stop in between her laughter. Eventually, I stopped and we both lay together, my head resting on her outstretched arm.
'You think you can forgive him?....for leaving you, I mean', she asked.
'I don't know. Maybe.'
I swiveled my head to look at her, she was staring at the ceiling.
'Would you forgive him if you were me?', I asked
She thought for a moment, 'Of course, after all he is a stud', she joked.
'No, seriously, would you?'
She turned to look me in the face, I could feel her breath on my nose as she spoke. 'I'm not in your position, I wouldn't want to make that decision and I certainly don't want to influence your decision. All I say is you should do what you think is the right thing for you. Not your family, but for you'.
'But I don't know what is right for me'
'You will, believe me, when there's a decision to be made, you will know in your heart what's the right thing to do'
I stared at her, absorbing her words. She was right, I would know.
'Thanks Gemma', I said and leant forward giving her a peck on her lips. She paused in shock, then smiled and squeezed me closer to her, in an embrace.
