I woke up with a fear of what the day had installed for me. After the previous day, I wasn't expecting good things. My mobile phone went off, as though it was waiting for me to awake. I looked for the caller name, there was a number and it was another mobile phone number, which I could tell by the first few digits. It obviously wasn't someone I had received a call from before, otherwise I would have added them to my phone list.

I considered that it may have been dad, or...I hoped not, his girlfriend. There was only one way to find out.

'Hello'

'Hi, it's Susan'

For a moment I wondered who Susan was, but as though my memories of Sunday night were waiting to flood back, they came like a wave, over me.

'Oh, hi', I said itching my leg nervously.

'I just thought I'd call, see if you wanted to hang out sometime', she didn't sound as confident as she was over the weekend.

'Hang out?', I repeated, buying some time. My mind was hammering incoherently, unable to decipher whether I did want to meet up.

'Yeah, I thought maybe when you finished college you could come round'

'Okay', I said and promptly cursed myself for saying it.

'That's great, I'll see you later', I was silent, wondering if I could take back the agreement, 'bye'

'Bye'. She hung up.
