My makeup was on point. I had grabbed a tube of mascara and turn back to the beauty mirror in my room and began to layer another coat of mascara on my eyelashes leaving nothing but my lips left. I extended the end of a bright, pink gloss and glided it over my lips, puckering them slightly as if to suggest a kiss then used my fingers to dab away at the corners and anywhere I can color. My phone vibrated and I checked to see Jeff
Jeff: Are you ready? I am coming in 5 minutes.
Me:Yes, I'm heading downstairs.
Read 8:59pmI made sure everything was in my handbag and ran downstairs where my mother was watching television.
"I'll be back by 11 mom!" You yelled.
"Okay!"
I opened the door and saw Jeff out there waiting for me. I stood there, in both awe and awkwardness, taking his attire as he was taking in mine. His red shirt was sightly lose against his torso and arms, adoring every muscle and detail of his athletic figure.
His eyes were traveling up my body as he took in my open toe heeled-suede boots, up my golden legs and to my loose fitted shirt dress that I had shorts underneath. Then to my chocker and hair in a tight top bun. Aside from the typical suburban girl, I stuck out but then again every place I had lived in, was within the city.
"Ready?" You asked.
"Y-Yeah," Jeff said opening the passenger door for me to go and enter into.
It wasn't until the car pulled away from my house that I felt that the journey had really begun. The breeze of the night rolling grazing my skin while Jeff's radio played.
"Is this your first party?" Jeff asked to break the silence.
"I have been to parties before, but I guess this would be the first one I have been to here."
"So should I give you the 101?"
"What, the don't drink the punch?"
"Well that is just part of it."
We both began to crack up while pulling into Bryce's drive way. He stopped the car while I took in how many people were actually here.
"Now it's my turn to ask; ready?"
"I don't think I am."
"Don't worry, I have your back."
I opened his car door to which eh reached over and closed it back and wagged his finger in my face. He exited the car and ran around to open my door.
"After you my queen,"
You laughed at his corny gesture and exited the car to which he closed the door and walked to the door.
"Jeff!" A boy who I remembered as, Montgomery de la Cruz, yelled as he tackled Jeff into a bro hug while I stood on the step of Bryce's party.
"Hey Monty!" Jeff replied, "You mind bro, I am hanging with Rose."
Monty turned towards me and I swear he had the same look that Jeff had when he noticed me leaving my house.
"O-Oh my goodness!" Monty yelled, "You look hot, Rose" he said checking me out and my outfit as I rolled my eyes at him, "Thanks."
"The name is Montgomery-"
"Monty!" One of the guys yelled getting his attention and sidetracking it off of me and Jeff. Jeff used his opportunity to put his arm around me as he led me into the packed house.
The party was lit. As people were dancing and grinding to the loud music, drinking and smoking, playing beer pong and were swimming in the pool.
There I saw Clay Jensen, the one guy who I made friends with in the library when he asked me about a book I was reading, I removed my arm from Jeff and waved at him and got a smile in return.
Though I was on my way to sit with him, I was intercepted by the other jocks that were laughing and drinking.
"Wait is this Rose! Rose Lovett!" One of the jocks called out.
"Smoking Hot!" Yelled the boys.
"Looking good Rose," a boy that I knew to steer clear from, Bryce Walker as I rolled my eyes at him and made a disgusting face. Rumors about him were not the best ones and I had witness at one time how he treated girls.
"Here you go," Jeff said intercepting any confrontation that was going to happen with the boys.
I grabbed the cup and looked back in the eyes that I knew I could trust as he grabbed my hand and led me out of the room while getting howls and whistles from the rest of the jocks that were cheering Jeff on.
Two hours later and Jeff had left me to hang out with his other friends and play beer pong with the other guys. Clay and I were talking about points in Lord of the Rings that were hilarious and making fun of certain scenes.
"I think I might head out," Clay said.
"I think I might as well." You replied while walking out with Clay. Just as you headed out the door, you saw something that you immediately regretted it, and my heart stopped. Jeff was making out with a girl...here I thought he wasn't like the typical jocks and he acts just like one. But then again, he wasn't mine? Right? Why should I care.
I simply just turned away from the scene and walked out of the house. I was heading towards the street only to feel something stopping me from following Clay.
"Wait!" Jeff yelled, "Where are you going?"
"I'm going home!" I yelled, "So please, go back in there and do what you were doing because it doesn't matter anymore."
"Then let me drop you off-"
"Forget it!" I declared, "Don't touch me! It's fine!"
"Please Rose, let me drop you home," Jeff pleaded.
"You're wasted and I'll be okay," I called out to him while walking out of the the lawn and caught up to Clay asking him for a ride on his bike to which he blushed when I sat on the bar of the bike as he rode towards my house. Jeff ran out and looked as Clay took me down the street before turning, and the look on his face was pure worry and distraught.
