Outfit for the game

I wasn't a pro in Baseball but I knew it was my father's favorite sport along side football. Baseball, to me, was the only game I could see on the radio. But still, why would someone swing a stick, hit a ball, and try to get back to where they stand before the ball returns? What pleasure is there in that? Why not participate in a sport like wrestling or track where there is an obvious level of individual improvement and therefore pleasure.

I guess Jeff taught me why. While I sit here on the top bleachers I can see the passion he had for the sport. It could have been that feeling that overwhelms him overtime he steps up to the plate.

The atmosphere was electric. The first thing that can be noticed when entering the stadium is how the majority of the stadium was our schools colors. The stadium was filled with excited chatter, music was blaring out of the loudspeakers and there were even our school band playing.

It was suppose to be the last game of the season and everyone who was anyone was here. Tyler and his yearbook obsession, Ryan Shaver's thirst obsession for getting the top scoop for the school newspaper regardless if it was good or bad.

After much anticipation, the game began and the home team, our team ran onto the field and their ace pitcher took their mound. I could see Jeff on outfield looking at the bleachers, locking his eyes with mine to which I smiled and wave.

As the game went on you would guess the noise level would have eventually died down, but it only got louder. It was quite a spectacle. I would have been tempted to participate, had I not a fear of being trampled.

The atmosphere would have upstaged the game itself had it not been such a great contest. The winter league annually attracts some of the best major league talent. The players were at the top of their game, and the match was highly competitive. To most of the fans' delight, Liberty High on the game 5-3, ending the game with the championships.

Everyone cleared the bleachers while I followed to head out until I stopped when I saw Jeff part from his team and run towards the bleachers to get a couple of the cheerleaders to yell out in excitement.

"Rose!" He yelled.

I looked at him as he hustled up the stairs and prevented me from leaving the bleachers.

"Yes?"

"Wait for me," Jeff said, "Don't forget our lunch date."

"Yes Dad," you replied as you took your seat back at the bleacher and he ran down back to the changing room. I guess that was liberty of the cheerleaders to try and get information from me.

"Girl, what is going on between you and Jeff?" Jessica asked.

"Nothing, we are just hanging out,"

"I don't think so," Sheri said, "You guys definitely have something going on or at least he is seriously into you!"

"Yeah," another girl agreed, "I know he was making out with his ex at the party but I swear I never seen him fall so hard with someone like you before."

"That was his ex-girlfriend?"

"I promise that nothing is going on," I replied, "We are just going to hang out, he is a good friend of mine."

"So you say, but no good friend ever goes out of his way the way he has been going extra for you."

"I guess," I muttered.

Sooner than later, Jeff was walking out with his typical jock jacket on an casual attire.

"Ready?" Jeff asked but slightly confused as to why the whole cheerleading squad was around you and not with the other jocks.

"Sure," I replied, "Excuse me ladies."

I slide out of the bleachers and walked out as they began squealing when Jeff wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulling me to his car while I laughed at the fact that he was asking oblivious questions.

"Seriously, were they bothering you?" Jeff asked once we reached the car.

"For the last time," I stated, "They were just asking about our relationship status, in which I told them that you were a really good friend of mine."

"Friend huh?" Jeff asked starting the car and pulling out.

Usually he would be the one to start the conversation, but this time he was quiet and very focused as if he was concentrating on something.

"Penny for your thoughts?" I asked, breaking the silence.

"My thoughts aren't that cheap!" Jeff said out of shock pretending obviously as you chuckled.

"Sorry, I was just curious to know what has gotten Mr. Atkins so focused on driving."

"Just hungry," he said with a hint of solemn which got me curious.

He soon pulled up to a diner and stopped the car to which I opened the door and surprisingly he let me go out without trying to open my door.

He soon followed out after me and walked straight to the door which I followed behind him. The rest of Liberty High was here eating their burgers while we got a booth sitting down getting ready to order.

"How can I help you today?"

I looked up to see a freshman male from our school directing his attention solely to me and ignoring Jeff until Jeff placed his hand on top of mine and glaring down the waiter.

"I will have a sprite with a cheeseburger," I replied to avoid a confrontation.

"I'll have the same," Jeff replied to which the waiter quickly got out of the fire and headed towards the kitchen with the orders.

"Jeff, what was that about?" I asked, since the game his behavior has been very eccentric.

"What?" Jeff asked looking at you.

I sighed knowing that this wasn't going to get anywhere and maybe he was probably heated over something but since he didn't want to talk about it, it wouldn't be my place to ask.

I pulled out my wallet to fish for the cash and placed it on the table for my portion on the meal.

"I think this should cover my meal," I replied getting up from the table and sliding out of the booth, "Come talk to me when your ready to tell me what is on your mind."

Jeff was in pure shock as I walked away asking for my food to be placed in a To Go plate which the chef placed it in and handed it to me. Jeff placed his hand at the bridge of nose and quickly followed out to follow me, but once he left and caught me, he noticed that I just entered the taxi and pulled away as he ran after the car only to slow down and look at where the taxi was going.

"We all have secrets, I just wish you would just tell me what was on your mind Jeff."
