"So . . . you guys know each other?" tanong ko pero hindi naman sila umimik.
The air was filled with uncomfortable tension and I can't help raising my eyebrows at them. They were avoiding each other's eyes while trying to lighten up the mood by asking another unrelated questions.
"It looks like you didn't expect to see each other and I think you have something to say—"
"No," tanggi ni Jazer at bigla naman siyang tumayo. "Ako na ang aalis. Naalala kong may gagawin pa pala ako. Sige."
She was smiling but her eyes were melancholic, as if she was reminiscing some memories.
"Hindi ko akalaing magkakilala rin kayo," she said while fidgeting her phone.
"He's my childhood friend," mahina niyang sabi, "and someone I really treasure."
"Childhood friend?"
"Yeah.
It was actually weird. She said they were childhood friends yet they didn't greet each other, as if they were on bad terms. For the first time, he was dead serious.
After that, he dismissed us early so I immediately texted Kuya Larry and him.
Tapos na class ko. Nagpasundo ako nang maaga.
After a few minutes, he replied.
For the first time, he wasn't sleeping. When he saw me, his lips curled playfully, exposing his dimple but his eyes were clearly dejected.
There was silence between us and it must be due to what had happened earlier. Looking back, I was really curious about their connection but they might think I'm prying into their lives, so might as well shut up.
"Are you talking about Katrina?" tanong ko at naging seryoso ang mukha niya.
