Chapter 9

Justin's POV:

"Hey, sweetie." I said as Jenny threw Jay in the car.

"Hey, dad." She said, annoyed.

"Who was that boy you were talking to?" I asked, trying not to go into daddy mode.

"Just a new guy." She said, looking at her phone.

"You have soccer at 4:00. Then lyrical dance at 5." I said.

"Okay. How long is lyrical?" She asked me.

"Just a hour." I said, focusing on the road. We just got home and Jay ran up stairs.

Jenny's POV:
Jay was talking to some new guy in her class. He was kind of cute. When we got home, I grabbed a snack and knocked on Jay's door.
"Who is it?!" She screamed a bit annoyed.

"Jenny." I said, opening the door, revealing Jamie typing furiously on her iPad.

"What you want? I'm busy." She said not paying attention.

"Who was that?" I simply asked, curiosity in my voice.

"What are you talking about?" She asked getting more annoyed by the second.

"After school. You were talking to some guy. A hot one." I stated.

"Why would you care? You have no business in what boys I talk to." She reasoned.

"Just tell me." I said, trying not to beg.

"Jason." She stated. Jason? That name sounds familiar? But why?

"Jason who?" I asked.

"I don't know his last name." She said. I walked out of the room.

Jay's POV:

I was doing my work when Jenny knocked on my door. I wasn't in the best mood. I was doing a creative writing assignment for English when she starts asking me all these questions that I don't have time for!

I turned around to see she had walked out of the room. Finally. I had just finished it what I heard my phone ding. I checked it. It was a text from an unknown number.

*Unknown number*
Hey, Jay. It's Jason.

*To Jason*
Hey.

No reply. I looked at my iPad and it said 3:30. I got my soccer stuff together.

"JAY! HURRY UP!" I heard my dad yell.

I hurried down stairs and went to soccer.

*At soccer*

Sierra was talking to her snotty friends when I got on the field. I couldn't hear anything but I bet it wasn't good.

"How is it since Jason moved away?" Alex said.

"It's okay. I miss him." She said tucking her hair behind her ear.

"You miss who?" I asked.

"Why would you care?" She spat.

"Just tell me and no one gets hurt." I threaten, getting all up in her ungrateful, untalented face.

"Jason." She said not at all scared by my threat.

"He goes to Mcbride middle school." She continued.

"He your boyfriend?" I asked not caring.

"Ex." She said acting like the tough girl she tried so hard to be.

"Okay." I said and walked over to Maddie, who just got out of her mom's car.

"Hey guess what?" I whispered, as she got her bag, turning around.

"Jay! You scared me!" She said calmly and relieved.

"What?" She said, getting really close to me.

"Sierra's ex goes to my school." I said, excited.

"Are you sure? It could be another Jason." She said not believing me.

"I'm pretty damn sure." I said, looking over my shoulder, a smirk forming from the corners of my mouth.
