Chapter 24: Nicholas

We had to watch the target due to the accusation yesterday. France and I kept our eyes peeled for any sort of inaccuracies that may arise within her. Mika found it quite eccentric but we paid no mind to her constant protests.

Once we took our second walk in the corridors, the crowd's eye made their way on us. It was a little unsettling, as I didn't know what they had in mind. I was gifted with a hearing that has profited me for as long as I can remember. Some were whispering as to how and why are we with the school's "freak". I didn't understand as to why they would label her with such hideous name yet, whatever it was, it might be connected to what she saw.

"Oi, you two!" Someone came running up to us, whom I recall to have a name of Risey Turner. "You're now the hottest topic in school!"

France quirked a brow and passed her by. I reluctantly followed, yet Risey was determined to get our attention.

"Hey!"

"What?" She finally turned to face her. "Can't you see that we have no time to waste here? Move along, commoner."

"We're all commoners here, ya know..." I saw her puff her cheeks and got to the point. "Why are you, like, hanging out with Cray?"

"Hanging...out?" I questioned, confused with her wording.

"Yeah like, the three of you entered simultaneously!"

"That is far too shallow for a reason to even gossip about us." She began, putting a hand to her hip. "Would you not at least consider that as coincidental?"

"I guess you can say that..." She grinned as if there's no tomorrow.

France didn't look even the slightest bit impressed, "If you have something to argue, you better put up a fight."

Considering she was also raised in long line of a family that belonged to the royal courts, I guess that speaks much of her argumentative attitude.

"Because of you, we lost that idiotic girl from our sights!"

"Eeeek!"

---

Thankfully, in this class -- which I assume is Mathematics because of the numbers on the board --  I was with Mika. This makes it easy to watch over her while trying to pay attention to the lecture. I paid no mind with it, honestly, for I have already learned the, what I call, more complicated way of solving those kinds of equations on the chalkboard.

"Ah, you." The teacher, whom I haven't caught the name, called on me. I stood up hastily, not wanting to disappoint the teacher.

"Yes, miss?"

"It seems you aren't listening to my discussion," She observed, adjusting her small framed glasses, "You are to answer a tough question."

The students around me gasped, it seems like I know why everyone has to patiently listen to this dull lecture; one has to answer a question and then, escape from it.

"What is the square of 11037 and 655? I want you to add both of them and square it as well."

The students looked dazed, some were even agitated to somehow, try to solve the simple question. Momentarily, I closed my eyes to think.

"Let me begin with saying that the square of 11037 is 121 815 369 and as for 655, it's square is 429 025." I said without even clamming up. Students let out an astounded gasp, some even clapped for a short while.

"But you're not yet-"

"My apologies for cutting you off since I was already getting to that." I cleared my throat before speaking again, "The sum of both the squares of those numbers is 121 858 274." I concluded, bowing in the process.

The smug look in the teacher's face was instantly wiped off, replacing with a shameful expression. With that, she walked out, taking all of her things.

Mika was the first to approach me, a large grin plastered on her lips. Others soon followed, giving me a handful of compliments. To me, those were just a piece of the praises I earned when I was just younger.

I abruptly stood up and made my way out of the classroom since class ended a few minutes ago.

"There is a commotion inside your classroom. What has happened?"

"There is nothing to worry about. I was just asked of a simple question."

We both walked to our next class.

"I recall, you had Mathematics, yes?"

I nodded.

"You've bested the teacher, yet again." She said, with a hint of reminiscing in her tone.

"Oiiii!" The redhead screeched, scouring through the crowd of students. "I heard what you did! You're awesome!"

"Hmph..."

---

We had our break. The cafeteria was very noisy and bustling, as usual I guess.

"Urk, what is this?"

"Its food, duh"

"I do not eat...garbage like this!"

I got between the two women; they seemed to be bickering too much for this day. "H-hey, cut it out!"

France crossed her arms and moved out of the queue to find a table. She sat at the very back, where Mika sat alone, munching on her own food.

"Why are you alone?"

"Oh..." She shied away, hiding her face behind her orange hair. "Hello."

Silence just filled our ears when Risey and I walked over to the two. They were not even talking anymore, I presume that Mika still felt something about the accusation yesterday. I understand if she feels a little awkward around her, yet, why is she not making any moves to leave the table? I've heard that you sometimes leave when you get awkward with the person.

"I want to say something." It was albeit quite inaudible, but France seemed to hear it just fine.

"Go on, then."

"Um...firstly..." She searched the air for the correct words to say. "What did you see?"

She wasted no time to answer, "None of your business."

Mika balled a fist and slammed it on the table. "Oh right," She began, with sarcasm, "I have no business with someone who just plunged themselves into my mind without my permission!"

"My accusation still stands." France fixated her gaze towards the other, "You are a killer. A cold-blooded one, at that."

"Even if I was, you aren't sure if those things you saw were real, right? I mean," She cleared her throat before continuing, "I got a talent for making up thoughts."

"Don't we all? Even so, you killed two people...and you will kill more."

"Nani?

"You are dangerous, so we must stay away from you at any cost.'

"So, why are you even sitting at this table?" Mika challenged, as if she was taunting her.

"We have no choice but to look after you, for a while."

We were once again filled with silence, not until she spoke, sending us into a fit of despair.

"Why yes," Mika had a maniacal grin plastered on her face, which was unsettling, "I am a killer. I have killed two people and I could even kill more, if I have to."
