I had school tomorrow but I couldn't bring myself to close my eyes. The rain poured hard outside, the loud pitter-patter of the raindrops didn't make me feel sleepy or whatever. The air around me got colder due to the rain, I was beginning to pray the streets around my school would be flooded so I wouldn't go to school tomorrow.
I only stared at the ceiling and sometimes, I would twist and turn in every direction. Why couldn't I get some sleep? I sighed in defeat and stood up to walk to my window. The mist covered the glass so I couldn't see much of the outside.
"It's already ten, yet sleep hasn't visited." I rest my head onto my hand, mimicking how Michiko looked earlier in the car. Rain has always been sad for me and it was something that will always make you think of the sad stuff to the point you'll begin to ask yourself: are the things I'm thinking even happened to me?
I was the only one awake right now, it couldn't get hurt getting something to eat downstairs right? So I made up my mind to go get something from the fridge. When I went down, I searched the fridge for anything good to munch on but all I could see was the milk and some other things.
"Milk would be good." I said to myself and grabbed the jug to pour myself a glass of milk.
I didn't notice anyone enter the kitchen so I choked on my drink when I saw Michiko enter and send me a glance. I noticed that her eyes looked distant again, I guess she couldn't quite sleep either.
"You...remind me of a child so dear when you drank that milk."
Kids pretty much drink milk, the only exception is that they're warm so how could I be a personification of the child she speaks about?
"She would drink her own glass and drift off to sleep." She got herself a glass of water and left the kitchen.
I stared at the doorway leading to the living room, where Michiko stood. Her tone was like her eyes, distant. She seemed to be reminiscing about this child when she saw me with the glass of milk. What about this child that truly reminded her of me? She didn't look the type to already have a child so that's out of the question.
Maybe she was the child she was talking about? Eh, why would she speak about herself as if she's talking to her own child?
I left the glass in the dishwasher and headed back up to my room. The rain continued its downpour, stronger than earlier. I couldn't think of anything more to do, other than push myself to get some sleep.
---
"Oh crud, I'm late!" I didn't care if the rain was still strong, I was freaking late! I headed downstairs to see if I should make food, which thankfully I don't have to do anymore since it was already there on the table.
I almost bumped with someone on my way out of the dining area.
"Why are you in a rush?" I heard them ask; it was the distant woman, Michiko.
"I'm late!" I exclaim in exasperation. Her grip on my arm was tight, I was basically forcing myself out of her hold.
"You won't be late."
"It's seven thirty in the freaking morning, Michiko! School started twenty minutes ago! I'm obviously late!"
When I finally freed myself, Michiko laughed as if she was mocking me. To my dismay, I couldn't find time to ask her why do such thing in front of me.
"I'm reiterating what I said, you won't be late." She said after she calmed herself. Is she kidding me? I already told her that school hours started a long time ago!
"That is because the streets around your school has been flooded." I heard Fran say behind me.
"Flooded?" I clarified, I'm not imagining it right?
"Definitely, see for yourself." She got hold of the remote and opened the TV. She was right, the streets around it were definitely flooded and not a single car could pass through it.
"Now you see how you won't be late?" Michiko mocked me, stifling a laugh.
"Dammit, I panicked over nothing!" I yelled in utter frustration.
"You should've checked first if you got classes, obviously the situation from last night hasn't changed a bit, so it's just probable that flooding will occur." She explained before I heard her went up the stairs.
"Tough luck, Mika."
---
Just like last night, I was bored. I kept flipping the channels in my TV but everything was about the rain, which definitely annoyed the heck out of me.
"Argh!" I threw the remote onto the screen, luckily it didn't break. I snatched my laptop and opened it, scrolling through the endless feed of links I randomly clicked due to my boredom.
Something struck me when I clicked a link that I randomly stumbled upon.
"A controversy about the book about the Mythicals I've been reading?" I scrolled through the information, mainly, the one who wrote this is stupid.
A controversy appeared about the book about these Mythicals. They were apparently real and some witnesses accounts prove it below this paragraph. These people preferred to remain silent about these encounters, however, they won't remain silent with the information they have.
I closed the site after reading the stupid entry. It's just a freaking theory and people have taken interest into it! God, how stupid can they get! I now even sound like I'm defending these people!
"The Mythicals are just that, myths. Fiction! Nothing worth babbling about!"
"You can't say for sure, Mika." I jumped when I heard her voice again. Michiko stood in my bedroom doorway, arms crossed and leaning against the wall. She had an emotionless expression but she definitely did not agree with what I just said.
"That is just a hoax. A satire news that dumb people go crazy about. What proof do they have anyway?" She shrugged. "They're just eyewitness accounts, not even a single picture has appeared to incriminate the said Mythical."
"You talk as if you've heard this." I noticed how she spoke about this issue so I pointed it out.
"Oh, I have, fortunately." She turned her back against me so I couldn't see her reaction nor expression. "You never know Mika, maybe you're also a witness but, you're unaware of it yourself." She walked away from my doorway which left me starstruck.
A part of me began to panic. I was going to incriminate Fran as a Mythical because of the trick she did the other day. The other part assured me that I could trust her, that she isn't what I think she is.
But I don't know anymore, my conscience tells me to trust them completely yet my gut tells me to incriminate her of being a Mythical in the modern times. What should I follow? Both seemed plausible, I can't make any decisions!
It was then I knew, whatever choice I make, my whole life would change completely into something that I never thought that would happen.
--------------------------------------
Ohhh shucks! That's kinda intense, Mika!
It's funny how I'm writing this because I can't sleep and I could hear faint drops of water outside my window. What a coincidence! Hahah well, another update will be out later during the day XD
Update: as of this time (almost 4 am) THERE IS A DOWNPOUR OF RAIN HAHAHA IT REALLY IS A COINCIDENCE WHEN I HEARD IT (i was in my earphones the whole time so...XD)
