"Here you are," said Furlan as he handed money over to a few men who were sitting on the couch, "its payment for both last time and this time."

"Yeah!" the men exclaimed. (y/n) watched them, one in particular: A boy named Jan, who had the leg issue, just like her father.

"Here you go," Furlan said as he handed Jan his share of the money.

"Thank yo-" Jan looked at the share of money in his hands and noticed that there were two extra stacks of money tied with string, one was smaller than the other. He looked at Furlan, who smiled.

"Alright," Furlan said, "try not to spend too much. We're being observed so you guys better get going."

"Yeah! We know!" The men exclaimed as they left.

"Jobs have been so much simpler since we got the gear." Furlan boasted, looking at Levi, who was wiping his knife. "Everyone has more money too."

"It seems like one has more than the others," Levi said, examining his knife in the light, "what's the reason?"

"Have you noticed?" (y/n) said, who was sitting down on one of the chairs near the couch. Her legs crossed on top of one of the armrests, "Jan's leg has been worse. I hope he finds a better hospital. Up on the surface would be nice."

"Yeah," Furlan said, "medicine has been really expensive now. Did you hear? The toll prices for the stairway went up as well."

"Tch," she spat, "seriously, wherever we go we just keep spending more money. It's pointless."

"What's worse is that it's the lack of sunlight that causes people's legs to worsen, and with the toll prices going up, it makes it even worse for the poor to even see the surface."

"Both of your parents were the same," Levi said, "am I right?"

"Both?" she asked, "what do you mean by-?" she looked at Levi then at Furlan, who sat down on the couch. Why didn't you tell me, Furlan? She decided to keep quiet. She didn't realize that Furlan's parents suffered the same fate as her father.

"It might be too late," Furlan said looking at the remaining money in his hands, "how much more...do we need to live up there?"

Everyone went silent. Suddenly, a loud bang was heard coming from the door. "What the?" (y/n) said as she got out of her seat. The three of them approached the door and drew out their knives. Furlan stood by the door holding the door knob, Levi stood in the center of the room with (y/n) beside him. Levi nodded his head signaling Furlan to open the door. He opened it and a young girl fell on the floor, her hand held tight to her chest.

"That's no surprise. It was only a kid." Furlan said putting his hand on his hip.

"I'm not....a...kid." said the girl, "I'm not...a kid!" She moved her head so that she could see them.

"Really?" Levi asked, "So then I wouldn't mind if I kick you out. I'll let the fact that you dirtied the floor slide, now get out."

The girl tried to stand up but she couldn't.

"You can't even get up."Furlan said.

"I can!" she said, "Don't look down on me." The girl stood up. In her hand that she held to her chest was a little animal wrapped in cloth. No way...had (y/n) thought...that's...a...bird. Suddenly, (y/n) could hear shouting and ranting outside. "Levi," she tilted her head towards the door.

"Tch, you're being chased?" Levi asked. The girl said nothing as she sat down leaning her back against the door, the little bird still in her hand. Levi and Furlan walked out by the doorway, (y/n) walked closer to the girl.
