Chapter 26. Cassidy
My date with Harry eventually became pleasant. After I quit moping, we actually had a good time. I didn't really pay attention to the movie, and I wasn't much for conversation at dinner, but when we got into the parking lot Nando's, he made my doubt disappear as only he can do.
We talked for a while after that. Just sitting in his car talking as the minutes rolled by. I enjoyed it.
When I walked into the house, I saw Liam holding Stefanie and Sophia glaring at them.
"Sophia..." Liam said.
"Care to explain?" she asked.
He sighed and let go of Stefanie, but kept a hold on her hand.
Aww...
"Listen, Sophia," he started, "I wasn't completely honest with you earlier. I told you I stayed home with the guys, but I went to Cassidy and Stefanie's prom with Stef."
"What?" Sophia practically screamed.
"That's not all."
"What could possibly be worse?"
"We kissed," he blurted.
She stood there, motionless, just staring at them. Stefanie's eyes kept going back and forth between Sophia and Liam.
I held my breath and squeezed Harry's hand tightly. I looked over at him as he looked to me.
"I think we should break up," Liam said, breaking the silence, "I don't feel the same about you anymore. I'm sorry,"
"No!" she yelled. "I decide when we break up! It is not your choice!"
"Actually it is," he replied cooly, "I'm a part of this relationship too, and I think we need to break up. It's not fair to you if I like someone else and still pretend to be happy in this relationship."
She laughed hysterically. Her eyes found Stef and her laughter cut off.
"You," she said, "You did this."
She started towards her. I let go of Harry's hand and ran towards her. I grabbed her wrists and held her back.
"Let me go!" she screamed.
"Not until you calm down," I said.
"Fine! I'm through with this! Screw you, Liam! Screw you and your whole freakin' family!" she yelled.
I let her go and she bumped into Harry on her way to the door.
She grabbed the door knob, but turned around and said, "Just to let you know, not to be harsh or anything, but I did it for the money," and walked out the door.
My jaw dropped wide open. I looked over at Liam, who is staring at the spot where Sophia just stood. He looked completely broken.
"Liam..." I managed to croak, "I am so sorr-"
"Save it," he said, cutting me off, "I'm sure you're jumping up and down with joy inside, so just spare me the 'I told you so' and leave me alone."
"Liam you know that's not true..." Stef said in defense.
"Just stop," he replied raising his voice, "I know I'm an idiot. I should've seen it, but you were right. Just leave me alone."
The next thing I knew, he ran up the stairs and I was falling into Harry's arms.
"Whoa there, Cassidy," he whispered in my ear, "Come here."
He wrapped my arm around his neck as Stefanie came up and wrapped the other one around hers. They sat me down on the couch and looked down at me for a second.
Harry kneeled down and asked, "Are you okay?"
I shook my head with tears in my eyes.
"Not at all," I replied.
I looked up at Stef, who was crying as well, to see her pacing back and forth.
Harry sat down next to me and held me tightly, rubbing his hand up and down on my back. I didn't hold back my tears.
How could I be so selfish? This was all my fault. He shouldn't have found out like this. He shouldn't be going through what he's going through right now.
The only reason he is, is because of me. It's my fault he was at the prom. It's my fault that he feels like an idiot. It's because that's what I told him.
Why do I screw everything up?
*Flashback*
"It's not your fault he's a dick, Cassy-bear," Liam said comfortingly.
"Why else would he dump me?" I asked. "It must've been something I did. Nothing else makes sense," I groaned and fell back on my bed, "It's not fair!"
He looked down at me, smiling and said, "Cassidy, life isn't fair sometimes. It's the times when it is fair that you need to remember. The good memories help block out the bad."
I looked up at him. He was just smirking at me. I rolled my eyes and laughed.
"It's not that easy," I said.
"Trust me, I know," he replied with a sigh.
I sat up. My arm flew up and landed on his shoulder. I squeezed his neck and put my head on his shoulder as he hugged me back.
"I'm sorry, bubba."
He smiled over at me.
"I'm okay," he said, "Tell you what, girls like ice cream when they're heart broken, right?"
I scoffed and replied, "I know I do,"
He laughed and continued, "Chocolate chip cookie dough?"
"You truly are the best big brother ever,"
"I know," he said winking and flying off the bed.
*End Flashback*
Now it really is my fault...
