"Alaina get up before you be late" I heard my mom say shaking me awake

I sat up for a second trying to wake myself up, I got used to not going to school I didn't even feel like getting up

I threw the covers off of my legs and walked over to my closet to find an outfit. Since the weather was warming up and getting ready for summer I decided on a gray maxi dress something I rarely wear especially to school, but today I was feeling good about myself.

After a quick shower I put on my outfit with some white sandals. I looked in the mirror and smiled at my reflection "you are so beautiful" I said smiling "don't let anyone bring you down"

"Alaina Cam is outside waiting" my mom yelled interrupting my little self praise session

"Coming" I yelled grabbing my book bag, phone and rushing downstairs

"Okay miss thang you looking real cute today" my mom said looking me up and down " who you getting all dressed up for"

"Myself" I said smiling proudly

"I know that's right" she said giving me a high five "have a good day at school I love you"

"I love you too" I said walking out the front door and to Cams car. Once I got in the seat I looked over at Cam who was staring at me hard

"What" I said feeling a self conscious under his stare all the pep talk I have myself in the bathroom went out the window as I started to fiddle with my hair thinking something was wrong with how I looked

"You um you look nice today" Cam said as he started to drive

I furrowed my eyebrows at his compliment which I wasn't expecting, I was expecting some slick remark "thanks" looking at him but it seemed like he was trying to avoid my gaze "Cam are you okay you acting like something wrong with you" I said reaching over and touching his shoulder he flinched a little making me even more worried; he was acting nervous like he didn't know me

"I'm cool I'm just getting over a cold I didn't want to spread my germs to you and get you sick"

I scrunched up my face "um okay thanks for the compliment though cammie"

"Yeah no problem" he said staring at the road

What is his problem he usually would tell me to stop calling him that name but he acting out of it, I thought to myself. The rest of the ride to school was quiet which was even weirder because cam is never quiet.

When we got to the school cam hopped out the car and started walking towards the building "wait up" I yelled jogging lightly to keep up with his fast pace

"Uh I gotta go the bathroom I'll see you in class" he said and walking away before I could even respond

"Hey" Roxy said walking up to me

I nodded my head at her still confused about cam

"What's up with cam he acted like he saw a ghost or something" she asked looking at me as we walked to my locker

"I don't know when he picked me up just morning he just was acting out of it" I said getting my books out for math

"Maybe it's his time of the month" Roxy said making me laugh

"Yeah maybe"

"But anyway you look super cute today what's the occasion"

"Thank you but there's not really an occasion I just wanted to dress up for myself you know" I said closing my locker door and leaning against it looking at Roxy

"I feel you sometimes you gotta do stuff for yourself"

I nodded my head "yep and that's what I'm doing, this is the new and improved Alaina the one that's not taking any bs"

"Yeas" Roxy said fist pumping the air "but since you're new and improved are you going to finally admit your feelings to cam" she asked raising an eyebrow

"Um i don't know about that one plus he's being weird"

"What kind of weird"

"Just distance you saw how fast he walked away from me"

"Yeah well maybe there could be a chance that he likes you too"

I laughed loudly making a couple kids stare "I highly doubt that Roxy this is not a movie guys like cam don't fall for girls like me I'm just the best friend that watches from a distance" I said sadly

"You don't know that Alaina you're gorgeous and cams a fool if he thinks otherwise"

"Even if that's true Rox I've know Cam forever why didn't he ever try to come at me in a relationship type way"

"You didn't come at him in a relationship type of way"

"That's different--

"How is it different" she interrupted

I fiddled with my fingers "I don't know Roxy it just is"

She sighed "okay what if he some how found out you liked him"

My eyes got wide "please don't tell him"

"I won't you should know me better I know how to keep secrets, but I'm saying what if he did find out you liked him"

"He would probably stop being friends with me and act like he's acting now" I said "omg what if Sam told him I liked him and he just wants to be friends so that's why he's being weird to me today"

"Do you really think he would stop being friends with you because you like him"

I nodded my head "yeah because the friendship would just be awkward and he would see me completely differently and I don't want that"

"So what are you going to do" Roxy asked

"I'll just tell him that I like him as a best friend and that Sam is a liar"

Roxy threw her hands up in frustration "or you could tell him you like him and see what happens"

"I can't do that Roxy I don't want to lose Cam as a friend if I lose him I would be heartbroken"

"But if you don't tell him how you really feel you're still going to be heartbroken"

"I'll be heartbroken but cam would still be my best friend, so it's a heart break I'll just have to bear"

Ringggg

The bell went off

"Come on ill walk you to class" I said hoping to change the subject

"Okay but this conversation isn't over Alaina"

I smiled and nodded okay as we walked towards her first class.
