Never Give Up ~a sqampy classic~

Embarrassment

"And I just can't wait to be Kiiiiiiiing!" sang Sqaishey in her beautiful voice. 

I smiled at her. "You have an amazing voice."

Sqaishey put her hand up to her chest. "Why thank you!" she said in a silly voice. "It's always been my dream to be a singer, but right now I'm stuck being a waitress at The Cheesecake Factory."

Of course! This made sense! Sqaishey always talked about how she used to work as a waitress before YouTube. I had no idea that she'd worked at the Cheesecake Factory though. I love that place!

"So," she said as the sunlight reflected into her eyes, making them gleam, "What do you do?"

Oh crap. What do I do? I'm a filmmaker? No, too much for a college student. Architect? No. Think Stampy, think! Suddenly I remembered what I had done in my early YouTube days. 

"You know, like your job," said Beth.

"Yeah I work in a pub," I said. 

Beth's eyes lit up. "Oh cool! What pub?" 

Oh no. I had to think. I had an idea but it could go terribly wrong. I hoped for the best. 

"You know," I said. "The pub!"

"Oh my gosh you work in that pub! That's awesome!" said Beth. 

Whew. Thank god. I knew most places had a pub that everyone went to, but definitely not everywhere.

We had been talking for awhile and The Lion King had just ended. They put the park radio system back on and most people left. Beth and I sat there, basking in the sun. I had decided to make my move. 

"Hey, uh Beth?" I asked. 

"Huh?"

"It's been really great knowing you, I've had a lot of fun!" I said as calmly as possible. 

"Yeah, me too," she said. 

"And I really like you," I said. "You're nice, funny, an amazing singer..."

She giggled. "Thanks! You too!"

She just wasn't catching on, was she.  I guess I'd have to do what I'd been dreading. Asking her out. I'd done it before, it was no big deal. I could do this. 

"Well," I began, "What I mean to say is, will you be my g-girlfriend?" Oh my god I did it. I actually did it. 

Beth started to blush and she looked at the floor. I could see her biting her lip.c 

"Joe," she said. "Listen, okay I would love to, except... I already have a boyfriend."

Gosh I was such an idiot! Why hadn't I thought of that?! Of course such a pretty girl like her would. I was speechless. 

Beth saw my shock and ran over and hugged me. "Listen Joe, I don't want this to ruin our friendship though, okay? We can still be friends, just not like that."

Just as Beth said that, Treat You Better by Shawn Mendes came on in the radio. It made everything so much more awkward. 

I nodded. "Okay," I said to Beth. 

We walked in silence to my car and I drove her home. 

It looked like my chances of ever getting back to my normal life were destroyed. As much as I hated Lee, as much of an asshole as he was, he was my only hope. I had to find him.
