Laney's Point Of View;

My skin tingled as sweat formed on my forehead. Fidgeting in my chair, I cradled Cara closer to my body, hoping she wouldn't wake up since I took her from her crib while she was asleep. I was praying that Justin's job interview goes well, I tried to deny any feeling of doubting and be more optimistic about him finding a proper job. I was nervous for him, I was even surprised when he announced that he was going to a job interview. I kept pacing around the house for a while to calm myself down but it didn't work out, I thought holding Cara while she was asleep would work, and it did.

I drew in a breath and released it quickly when I heard movement outside the apartment. I jumped to my feet and opened the door to reveal Justin with grocery bags. A proud smile that existed on his face relieved me, he got the job.

“Did you get the job––” I was cut off by his lips pressing against mine in a quick peck.

“Nope.” He replied with a smile, stepping inside. Noticing Cara was cradled in my arms, he leaned in and kissed her forehead. “I got something for her.” He announced excitably.

A frown was still plastered on my face. “Why didn't you get the job?”

“I'm happy with the one I have.” Justin answered, he lifted Cara and cradled her. “Wakey Cara.” He looked at me, probably noticing the frown on my face. “I love working from home baby. I’m saving to buy a new house and everything's okay, don't worry about it okay?” He squeezed me closer to him using his free arm.

I nodded shyly, taking Cara again from him. He moved all the grocery bags inside and shut the door after he was finished. He left them in the middle of the house and excitably took out a big rectangular box. He sat on the floor and put the box in front of him.

“Supposedly, this will help Cara stand up and walk with it.” He informed me. “I'm so excited to see her walking. I might even cry.” The hope in his voice twisted my heart.

“She's growing up too fast.” I exclaimed, plopping down next to him. Cara started steering in her sleep and her eyes fluttered open.

“Morning Cara.” Justin reached her arms to take her. “Let me get a beer so I can build this thing.” I rolled my eyes as he said 'beer'. Before he stood up, I jumped on his lap so he wouldn't get up.

I placed my arms around his neck. “No beers until 1pm, you promised.” I reminded him, remembering the conversation we had before he went to his job interview.

“Vodka?” He licked his lips, a glow appeared in his eyes.

“Baby.” I whined, pecking his lips. “Build this thing first––consider it as a distraction.”

Justin leaned in and I was expecting a kiss from him but instead, he stuck his tongue out and licked my cheek, causing me to squeal and drop off his lap. In a quick move, he jumped to his feet and ran to the grocery bags he just got. Taking a six pack of beers out, he snatched and after opening it, he quickly gulped it down. The whole time I was trying to hold the giggle that threatened to come out, he was hilarious when someone holds him from doing something. I knew he would somehow find a way to drink his beer.

“You belong in the naughty corner.” Joking, I pointed to the corner of the living room. “Just... finish it fast. I want to see Cara walking.” I told him desperately.

He nodded and un-tucked his white dress shirt from his black jeans. He gulped the rest of the bottle of beer and placed it on the floor then started to unbutton his shirt. I watched him boringly, waiting for him to take off his shirt and change so he would build Cara's toy.
