Laney's Point Of View;
It has been a week since Danny broke off her engagement with Justin and they basically spoke everyday and would end arguing with her for an hour. She desperately wanted them to stay friends––apparently, they've known each other since they were toddlers––but Justin refused, telling her she needed to be committed in a relationship with him then they could give Cara everything they can. Arguing with Danny equals bad temper for him, he became stressed most of the time.
Oliver insisted on us spending at least a week at the lake house and to be honest, I was thrilled. Living in a house with a lake would be every single person's dream, probably except for Justin. He basically has been dreading doing anything the past week, and even the little things Cara used to do didn't catch his attention anymore.
Ultimately it was the day of packing, I didn't have everything in Justin's apartment and I had to go back to my mom's house to find them. I was finished packing all my stuff that was here and I thought I would help Justin before going to my mom's.
“Justin––”
I was immediately cut off by him hushing me, causing me to stop talking. I stepped inside Cara's nursery and saw him pacing around with her cradled in his arms. The nursery was a mess, the basket of laundry was upside down and all her laundry was scattered everywhere. An empty suitcase was opened to the floor, making me wonder why hasn't he packed yet.
“She wouldn't fall asleep.” Justin stated, a struggling look on his face while he rocked her back and forth. “Baby, sleep for daddy okay?” He whispered to her, his head tipped back when she giggles got louder, she honestly looked like she wasn't going to fall asleep but I would hate to tell Justin the truth since he looked like he had so much promise.
“Why haven't you packed yet?” I asked shyly, biting my nails.
He cocked his head to the side and barked. “Well, because this little monster––” he set Cara down on the floor, leaving her to crawl around freely. “––Is giving me a hard time.” He threw himself on the floor with a loud thud and crossed his legs.
I chuckled at his answer, wondering what she did. “Imagine when she walks.” I grinned from ear to ear, hearing his loud groan.
“I will be excited for a few hours, then I would spend the rest of my life running after her.” He attempted to lighten the mood with a joke. “I just really hope that she doesn't hit herself or bump into something while I’m not looking.” He was folding a pile of clothes to place them within the suitcase while talking to me.
“I'm going to my mom's in an hour by the way.” I informed him, pressing my lips together.
“I can come with you if you want to, maybe we can have dinner after?” His eyes lit up as he suggested. “Would your mom mind?”
“No, she wouldn't mind at all.” I fiddled with my fingers.
“Your mom's amazing.” He complimented, causing me to frown. I knew he didn't mean it that way, but just the fact that his mom doesn't seem to care a lot about him broke my heart. Oliver was the only one that seemed to genuinely care about him and Cara.
After Justin was done with folding a pile of clothes, he put them in the suitcase and mumbled 'watch' to me. As soon as he got up and twisted his back away from Cara, she rushed to the bag with a playful look on her face. She first glanced at me, then at Justin's back before she reached for the first piece of clothing and tossed it out of the bag. That's why the room is a mess, I thought, giggling to myself. Turning around, Justin sat back down on the floor and she stopped what she was doing and crawled to him.
“She just does it to anger me.” He exclaimed dramatically. “I can't pack while she's around.” Justin paused, his eyes suddenly widening. “I forgot, are you allergic to dogs or hate them?”
Furrowing my eyebrows, I shook my head. “I like dogs actually.”
“Oliver has 6 Pomeranian doggies and they're crazy.” Justin explained, pulling Cara by her feet whenever she approached the new bundle of folded clothes. “I will give her a bath and maybe she will fall asleep.”

5 hours later, we arrived to my mom's doorsteps after half an hour of hearing Cara cry. She kept crying and no matter what we did, it was no use. I was the one driving and Justin was in the backseat with Cara in the car seat, I stopped the car more than 5 times to see what was wrong because her sobs were getting really loud and I was getting scared. Justin ended up putting her in a carrier that he hung on his torso while sitting down and thankfully, she fell asleep in it.
After my mom and her boyfriend greeted us, we stepped inside and Justin immediately gave her to me and disappeared into the restroom. I was stressed and I was getting worried about Cara that I couldn't even concentrate on anything. My mom looked at me worryingly.
“What is going on?”
“Cara didn't stop crying for half an hour for no reason.” I informed her, hoping that she knew why babies cried for no reason all of the sudden. “I think she's exhausted from crying.”
My mom approached Cara's sleeping figure on the couch and she cradled her in her arms. She pressed her palms on Cara's forehead and shook her head, telling me that she wasn't sick. 20 minutes passed and Justin didn't come out, I couldn't just sit and wait. I strode to the restroom to find the door ajar. I stepped inside and saw Justin with his hands on the sink, he was breathing heavily.
“I feel like something's wrong with her,” he rasped, his chest heaving up and down. “I don't know what to do.”
I took a step towards him and bounced on the ball of my feet nervously. “I'm sure she's fine, maybe she just doesn't like cars that much.” I assured him, my mom was calm and she said it was probably because of the car. “Justin...”
He turned his head and locked his eyes with mine. “Mhm?”
I tip toed to look him straight in the eyes, and after a few awkward seconds of staring, I shyly leaned in and pressed my lips against his, pecking him. It was short and awkward and once I pulled away, I saw his hands push me closer to him. His lips crashed into mine and at the moment, all my dreams became reality.
