Laney's Point Of View;
I woke up in the middle of the night due to the sound of Cara crying her heart out. I knew a baby's favorite thing to do is to cry in the middle of the night. Her cries were louder than any other baby and I was wondering how Justin deals with her crying at night. I could tell he had a short temper.
She kept crying for a good half an hour and I started to get worried, does Justin leaves her to cry her little eyes out? Justin seemed like he hated everything, he had a bad attitude and a bad temper too, I could tell.
I swung my legs off the bed and sleepily walked out of the room. The light outside in the living room was on. I spotted Justin on the sofa with Cara crying on his lap. He wasn't holding her or anything, she just laid on his lap with her arms moving to reach him. Justin had a black framed reading glasses on and he was writing something, using his hand as a stand.
"She woke you up?" He asked, his eyes didn't leave the notebook.
"Uhm, no." I lied, making him look at him. His eyes had bags underneath them, his hair was so messy and looked like he was pulling on his strands. "I just want to get a drink from the kitchen."
He nodded and returned to what was he doing. I heard his heavy sigh when his little girl continued to cry, she was a loud baby. I strode to the kitchen and was in shock when I found it completely empty. Opening the fridge, I found baby food and a few bottles of water. Heck, my mom paid a lot to guarantee that the place was going to be clean and at least food would be in the fridge.
I stormed angrily to the living room and gathered all my courage to speak to hum. He was intimidating person.
"Justin," I spoke through my gritted teeth, this is the first day and I'm starting to regret it. "Why there are no drinks or food in the fridge?"
He groaned and took off his glasses. "I forgot." He rubbed his eyes then stood up while holding Cara. "I will go shopping t-tomorrow." He stammered, his eyes literally closing while he was talking to me.
Cara's loud cries still haven't stopped and I was desperate to tell him to see if she's hungry or need to change her diaper. I eyed Justin as he placed Cara on the soft blanket on the floor and walked to the bathroom. The moment he shut the door closed, Cara stopped crying.
"Why are you torturing us?" I asked jokingly, sitting on the blanket next to her and wiping her tears with my hand. She stopped crying and that meant she wasn't hungry or needed to get her diaper changed.
"How about you go to sleep, little one?" I asked her, styling her dark brown hair. I picked her up and cradled her in my arms. The sound of the shower spray being turned on was like a drug to her because she fell asleep immediately in my arms. Man, I felt proud because I made a baby sleep in my arms.
I didn't know whether to place her on the blanket or take her to her crib, which I didn't know if she had one or not. I was about to walk to the room across from mine but I saw the bathroom door open, startling me. Justin stared ahead of him until he found the sofa. He dropped his body on it and hugged a pillow against his bare chest. Rolling my eyes, I walked to him carefully.
"Justin?" I called, getting a snore as a response. He completely forgot about Cara, or maybe he was just ignoring the fact that I made her calm.
I chose to go find if the crib was inside the room. I quietly twisted the doorknob and pushed it open. I searched the light switch with my hand until I found it. Turning it on, I aw'ed loudly when I saw Cara's room. It was the room any girl would want, pink butterfly wallpapers decorated the wall with pictures of her, Justin and what looked it the mom. She was a blonde pretty girl, with blue eyes and plump lips. She and Justin were smiling so big and Cara was being held by her and she looked grumpy.
I lowered Cara to the crib to let her sleep peacefully. I took one last look at the room, there was no bed and I was starting to wonder if Justin sleeps on the couch instead.
I made my way to the bedroom and shut the door behind him slowly, it seems like it's going to be interesting.
I was able to go to sleep after, but not for so long. I was awakened for the second time by Cara's crying and the sound of Justin yelling. My breathing hitched in my throat, he was yelling too loud. Grabbing my phone, I pushed the door open a little bit and saw Justin holding Cara and yelling on the phone.
Frowning, I stepped outside quietly and went over him. He stopped yelling and stood frozen for a second, staring at me weirdly.
“You're unbelievable.” I spat, taking Cara from his arms and snuggling her. Justin stormed with an angry expression on his face to Cara's bedroom and slammed the door shut. At least he continued his yelling there.
“Shhh, it's okay baby.” Even though I wasn't friends with Justin nor know who the heck is he, me being his roommate only, but I felt like I was going to get attached to his daughter. She was the definition of adorable, and the fact that Justin ignores her killed me inside.
“How about we go find something to eat?” I asked, walking around the living room so she calm down. I kissed Cara's cheek, startling her and making her look at me. She reached for my hair and grabbed a strand giggling.
“Ow.” I smiled when she pulled my hair. “Stop that.” I delicately made her leave my hair in peace and held her hand. I made it to the kitchen and found her high chair. Opening the fridge, I found baby formula and a bottle of milk.
“Who the fuck do you think you are?” A voice coming from behind me startled me, making me turn around to see Justin's red face.
I was still intimidated by him, but I wasn't going to show him I’m scared and was probably going to get the heck out of here. “You can't yell like that in front of a baby!” I shouted back, my voice as louder as his.
“My baby.” He spoke through his gritted teeth, veins sticking out of his neck. “Therefore, I do whatever I want and I don't want you to get in my business again.”
“Fine, I’m leaving.” I stomped my feet and turned on my heel. I can't live with someone like this, he could seriously hurt me or his baby. I was going to let my mom know what was going on so she can find a way to help the little baby.
I walked to my room and opened my suitcase to start packing the few items I took out yesterday. I heard Justin's footsteps approach 5 minutes later and he stood in the doorway, feeding Cara from the bottle of milk. Even though him feeding Cara made my heart melt, I was still going to leave.
“Don't leave, okay?” I heard Justin's soft voice. “I––I'm just, I spent some of the money and I can't return them.” He stuttered, a defeated look on his face. “I'm sorry.”
“I don't know you Justin, you're a stranger to me and I barely trust you. You can't act like that around me, you can't yell at me the way you did.” I exclaimed, still packing. “Besides the way you treat her is cruel. I woke up last night a million time because you leave her to cry. I know I should mind my own business but you can't treat a baby like that.”
He sighed. “I can't really find a way to make her stop crying.” He admitted, looking at his feet. “I'm useless when it comes to Cara so you shouldn't––”
I cut him off. “I will stay on one condition, you will leave Cara completely to me, pretend like she doesn't exist for a week. I will deal with her, I will feed her and change her diaper, just don't touch her for the whole week.”
His lips curled in a smile. “Really?” He sounded happy, I was going to show him that he can't live without his daughter for a week.
