Laney's Point Of View;

After ten minutes of doing nothing but thinking of a solution, I decided I would try finding Justin's mom and speak to her. I was a complete stranger to her and I had no idea what will happen but I knew it would be awkward anyways so why not take the change? I took my iPhone with me and headed for the cafe shop that she said she would be there.

I was fortunate enough to find her sipping on a mug of coffee alone. I went over her with a faint smile on my face to greet her.

“Hi,” I smiled, sitting down across from her chair. “I know this might sound weird and all of the sudden but, I’m trying to help Justin get Cara back?” It was more of a question than a statement.

“He's not responsible enough to raise a baby.” Pattie replied, taking the last sip of her coffee. “He should be thankful that Danny didn't press any charges against him, you tell him that.” She grabbed her purse and a little magazine that was on the table. “If you excuse me, I need to go.”

“I'm begging you, is there any way I could talk to Cara's mom? I’m trying to help him, he's making me feel like I’m his only hope to get Cara back and I don't want to disappoint him.” I begged, my hands clasped together. I probably looked like an idiot, but it would be worth it if I make Justin happy.

“Oliver is babysitting Cara tomorrow for the whole day, I can bring her to Justin's apartment and you bring her back by 8.”

I let out a strangled sigh that I was holding whilst she spoke, this was the only chance and I could only accept it. Cara belonged with Justin anyways, since his ex is pretty much careless and rude, she can't raise a baby herself.

“Okay, thank you so much, I’m sure Justin will appreciate it.” I felt a warm glow expanding throughout my body in excitement.

Placing her sunglasses on, she gave me a smile. “See you later.”

Just as Pattie promised, the next morning, I heard knocking on the door. I quickly ran to it and when I opened it, Pattie was standing was Cara cradled in her arms with a huge baby bag in the other arm. A grin spread on my face, this was perfect.

After a short conversation, she said she had some work to do and had to go. Cara was so deep in her sleep and she looked completely adorable with her cute red bow. She was dressed in a pink onesie with stars on it. I took a few money bills and stuffed them in my jeans' pocket. I had to take a taxi because I didn't have any car seat for Cara.

Arriving at the hospital, I went through the reception and straight for Justin's hospital room. Without even knocking, I burst inside the room with the biggest smile on my face. The room was pitch black and I could hear faint snoring. I pushed the blinds open and glanced at Justin who was asleep with his mouth half open.

“Don't wake daddy up, okay?” I whispered in Cara's ear, she had woken up on the way to the hospital and I knew she would be hungry, I didn't know what to feed her so I thought Justin would deal with her. Justin was on his back, I didn't hesitate to lower Cara to his chest but regretted it when she squealed loudly.

“Nope Missy.” I held at her my arms' length. “No screaming, no squealing, nothing.” I warned while making funny faces, resulting in her laughing cutely and reaching her arms for me.

This time, I placed her on the pillow next to Justin's head and I thought, all of this happened because he almost lost her and he wouldn't mind if she kicked him in the face. Cara giggled again when I let her on the bed, I placed my hand on her back because she wasn't used to sitting––thanks to Justin and his craziness––Justin didn't let her do anything nor helped her, I blame him for that but I know he's young and complicated. At eight months, babies usually start crawling, and Cara couldn't even sit on her own.

Her little chubby arm reached for his nose, and she started pulling it. I was holding back a laugh the whole time she kept pulling his nose and giggling, this was so adorable. After getting bored of pulling his nose, she decided to stuff her chubby hand in his mouth. That's when I saw a smile curl in the corner of his lips, he opened his eyes slowly and for a second, I saw tears well up in them.

“Thank you.” He whispered incoherently because of the presence of a chubby hand inside his mouth. I bit my lips to prevent myself from laughing too loudly, Cara was having the time of her life.

“You go, babygirl!” I cheered for Cara to annoy Justin more. “Show him who's the boss here.”

Justin delicately removed her hand from his mouth. “She doesn't need to show me.” He whispered, taking her in his arms and hugging her tightly.

“Who's Oliver by the way?” I asked when her name popped in my head, Pattie mentioned that Oliver was going to babysit Cara today but I took her instead.

“My lovely older sister.” He said sarcastically, not taking his eyes off Cara. “Why?”

“Your mom made this happen, she told me that Oliver was babysitting Cara today and she asked if I want to take Cara instead of Oliver and bring her to you for the day.” I explained to him, biting the inside of my cheeks nervously. “How old are you?”

“Twenty something.” Cara decided to torture Justin even more by pulling his hair.

“Justin...” I trailed off, he didn't seem old.

“Sixteen plus six.” He said in a low voice, wanting to avoid the question.

“You're so old, grandpa.” I joked, crossing my arms on my chest. “Twenty two Justin? You're ashamed to be twenty two?”

Ignoring me, he let out a satisfied sigh. I took Cara from him and grabbed his hand that didn't have the IV in. I approached his hand to her little mouth, remembering when he told me that she was teething and likes to bite. She opened her mouth and immediately start biting his skin, she looked concentrated as she continued to bite him.

“She's hungry.” Justin commented while sitting up and taking his arm back. “I will go see if I can get her some food from the cafeteria.”

“I can go.” I interrupted him, I didn't want him to get tired or be in pain but he insisted. He gave me a death glare and stared at me with a challenging look on his face. “Are you aware that you're going to flash everyone your boxers.” I tilted my head to the side.

“What?” Justin looked at the back of his gown, finding it open. “Oh.” His face turned red in an instant. “Fine, go.” He rolled his eyes and sat back down on the bed.

I exited the room with the biggest smile of victory on my face. I had a good feeling about this, Justin was playing with Cara with was a progress, and he even was letting her bite him. And for the first time in a long time, I felt genuinely happy.
