Laney's Point Of View;

Ever since the kiss Justin and I shared in the bathroom––which was interrupted by mom––I felt butterflies in my stomach whenever I looked at him. I've been dying to find a perfect moment to tell him about my bottled up feelings and like they always say 'don't wait for the perfect moment, take the moment and make it perfect' and I did. Sadly, my mom opened the door while our lips were locked and I jumped in my place, pushing him away in embarrassment. For the next 2 hours, we listened to my mom's blabber about love and protection. Justin was smirking most of the time while my mom talked because Justin and I haven't even talked about it alone.

“Let's go.” I whipped my head to the right, snapping out of my thoughts. I glanced at Justin and the two pink boxes in his hands, he suddenly wanted cupcakes so we had to stop at a cupcake shop. Cara was in the carrier because that was the only way to make her stop crying. She just wanted Justin's attention.

“Do you want to eat one?” Justin offered, holding out to me a chocolate cupcake with mint green frosting. I shook my head and started the car, I wanted to just go to Oliver's house since I was tired and embarrassed as well of the situation with my mom. “Soooo...” He dragged out the 'o', stuffing his mouth with the cupcake.

“I think I've never been embarrassed in my entire life.” I admitted, my cheeks flushing a deep red color. The best moment of my life turned into the most humiliating moment of my life––thanks to mom. “I thought did––”

“Are you freaking serious?” He spoke with his mouth full, causing me to laugh. “That wasn't embarrassing if you ask me. Laney, have I ever told you about my first time?”

My eyes bulged out of their sockets when the words 'first time' escaped his lips. Now he was going to talk about his sex life, just great. I shook my head as a reply to him, I watched him swallow everything he had in his mouth to speak.

“Do you wanna hear it or not?” He asked with a serious expression on his face and just as I was about to speak, he cut me off to tell me his story. “Imagine this; I was fifteen, Danny was fourteen, we were going to wait until her parents leave but I told her to just be quiet. Her mom heard us, the door wasn't locked, you can imagine the rest.” Justin explained and when I looked at him, his face was flushed.

“I would rather not imagine the rest.” Joking, I stopped the car in front of Oliver's house. I heard Justin's hoarse chuckle, followed by his satisfied sigh. “Should I park in the driveway?” I asked him, he nodded as a response.

“Can we talk first here?” He ceased his eyebrows. “Laney, let's be honest with each other alright?”

“Yeah.” I cut the engine off and awkwardly drummed my fingers on the steering wheel.

“As a confused human being, I demand an explanation.” He spoke in his crappy British accent to lighten up the mood. “I want to speak first, but I want to know why.”

“I like you, Justin.” I admitted, my eyes fixed on Oliver's house to avoid any eye contact with him. “I think you're amazing and...and you smell like cupcakes.”

He giggled adorably. “That's funny.” He added, patting Cara's back. “I know my head isn't in the right place right now, I can promise you I will be a good boyfriend––if you accept to date me of course.” He shut his eyes closed for a second and reopened it slowly, waiting for my reaction.

When he noticed the smile I was trying to hide, I saw him lean in to my face, his eyes fixed on my lips. Just as I was about to press my lips against his, Cara's hands hit his face, stopping us both from kissing each other. He shot her a death glare, which was hilarious because she broke into fits of cute giggles.

“Why would you do this to daddy huh.” He pinched her cheek delicately. “Let's go inside so I can be with you alone.” He stated, opening the door of my car.

I got out of the car and walked to the backseat where Cara's seat and diaper bag was. I grabbed them while Justin went to the trunk of the car to get our bags out. I was excited to check out the lake but Justin instantly got grumpier when he saw Oliver walking out of the house. She welcomed me with a hug and squealed loudly when she saw Cara.

“Can you babysit her today?” Justin asked Oliver without even greeting her, Oliver tried to hide the frown that was visible on her face and nodded, taking Cara out of the carrier. Justin took out all of our suitcases and left them on the cement. I stretched his arms and stuck his right arm at me to hold hands with his.

“I really hate it here.” He finally exclaimed, a painful look on his face. “I wish we could just stay somewhere else.”

My eyebrows knit in confusion but I let it go, not wanting to talk about something that clearly upset him. We walked inside together, the house wasn't as big as I thought but it looked cozy. It was as messy as Justin's apartment was, She had little figure actions everywhere, which I thought was creepy.

Justin spotted Oliver in the kitchen and he dragged me inside with him. His mouth hung open as soon as he spotted something on the counter, a smirk started to appear on his face as his eyes darted to Oliver. She returned the smile and nodded at him.

“You got it for me?” He asked in a high pitched voice, eying the bottle of wine on the counter as if it was a piece of art. “Oliver I love you.” He kissed his sister's cheek, his whole face lighten up.

“I've never seen anyone excited like this for a bottle of wine.” I rolled my eyes with a grin, he was way too excited for it and it would be safe to say that it made his day.

“Not just a bottle of wine.” Justin corrected, taking the glass that was placed next to it.

Oliver stopped him. “Feed your daughter first and do whatever you want later.” She warned, handing him Cara. “Did you bring her teething gel with you?”

He froze in his place. “Holy crap, that's why she was crying.” Justin's eyes flicked to me. “Where are your car keys? I will go buy her a new one.”

I threw the car keys to him and he caught it swiftly, he walked out of the kitchen and left Oliver, Cara and me alone. Oliver already had a plate of something green and mushy in her hands, I guessed she made it for Justin to feed Cara.

“How are you doing, Laney?” Oliver suddenly spoke to interrupt the peaceful silence. “I'm so glad you're here, we can get to know each other more.”

“Yeah, I’m glad too.” I nodded in agreement. “I don't think Justin's excited about being here though.”

Oliver tilted her head. “He told you that?” I nodded in response. “He just says that because I boss him around.” She paused for a second to spoon feed Cara. “Do you want anything to drink? This wine is really tasty.” She pointed to the bottle Justin was worshiping minutes earlier. I agreed to tasting it just because I was curious why Justin was so happy about it.

“Why was he excited about it again?” I gave her a questioning look, examining the bottle.

“They're rare.” She told me. “And dad used to drink it with him so I figured it would make him happy.” Oliver shrugged at me. “Did he ever speak to you about him?”

“No.” I replied, suddenly interested in the subject. Oliver looked like she was about to cry for a second but then she sighed, a weak smile appeared on her face.

“He died with a drug overdose.” Oliver explained, her eyes fixed on Cara. “He will tell you in time the whole story, it's interesting.”
