Evan's POV
I spent the majority of the rest of my day with my dad in his office, just like old times. He sat next to me on the love seat in his office as we went through photo albums from Ellie and I's childhood. I laughed loudly while pointing to a picture of two-year-old me naked on the beach flashing a huge grin at the camera from over my shoulder. My little butt was covered in sand and I had a melting ice cream treat in my hand.
"God, you never wanted to keep your bathing suit on. I swear, I would turn my head for one second and you would have it buried somewhere in the sand." He chuckled along with me as he shook his head. I laughed at his confession before turning the page. There was a huge picture of Ellie and I hugging one another in front of a cake with a number 3 candle. Mom was in the background clutching at her back looking as pregnant as ever. I laughed softly once more, causing my dad to avert his gaze to where I was looking.
He smiled fondly before saying, "Troy's pregnancy was the hardest on mom. Her back always hurt and she had to pee more often than when she did with you and Ellie. Probably because he was always kicking her bladder." He laughed. The next page had my name across the top in large, glittery letters and the whole thing was just photos of me at different ages on my dad's lap in this very office. He rubbed my shoulder before pulling me into a side hug and patting my back.
"I guess I really was a daddy's girl, huh? Mom was kinda forgotten." I giggled with a little sliver of guilt.
"You were until you turned about fifteen and wanted to start going on dates. Lord help me, those next two years were the worst years of my life." He grumbled. I looked at the side of his face, unable to remove my sympathetic expression.
"Sorry about that." I cringed. "I really made things difficult on you and Mom, huh?" I mumbled knowingly. He scoffed before ruffling my hair.
"You have no idea. You were always the shit head out of you and your sister. Ellie just usually never said no and got dragged into whatever plan you'd concocted." His assessment made me laugh loudly because I knew, for a fact, that he was 100% correct. "I can still remember the first time you said you'd hated me. It was after I went and picked you up from that little senior fucker's house when he didn't bring you home after prom your freshman year. What was his name again?" He inquired, giving me a sideways glance. I winced at the memory before replying.
"Keegan Grinman."
"Ah, yes! That's what it was! I thought the kid was going to shit his pants when I stuck my head in his truck window." He laughed. I joined him before pushing the album aside and wrapping my arms around his bicep and leaning my head against his shoulder.
"I never have thanked you for everything, dad." I whispered.
"What's that sweetheart?" I shrugged my shoulders before swallowing the lump of emotions in my throat.
