I glared at Harmon who'd just let go of a tree branch, causing it to fling back and smack me in the face.
"Oops," he laughed unapologetically, earning a slap upside the head from his boyfriend. I pushed the branch to the side, holding it out of the way for Tyler. He smiled at me gratefully, but I didn't smile back.
I didn't have the energy to.
"Are we almost there yet?" Luna whined, swatting a mosquito off of her neck, "Do I have to wait until we're there to take my clothes off?"
I wrinkled my nose in distaste. "Do us all a favor and keep them on."
Wesley made a choking noise, and his sister glared at him.
We'd been walking through the woods for a good 20 minutes, following a rough trail that people had made from past adventures. Before heading to the shallows though, we'd all made the split-second decision to camp there overnight.
With just a small grocery bag of food, our clothes, a few blankets, and other random crap, we weren't exactly prepared for an overnight stay in the wilderness, but I was too excited to care. I loved spontaneousness, but more specifically, recklessness.
Skinny-dipping at night with my friends seemed like something that would get my blood flowing. I lived for adrenaline rushes, and this had to be the definition of one.
Harmon had easily convinced my mom that we were all just staying overnight at Joshes house for an after-party. I think she was just relieved that I was finally doing something other than sitting in my room for eight hours a day.
"Just a couple more minutes," I finally assured the group, and Grey nodded, backing me up. "It'll be worth it once you guys see how pretty the water is. There's barely any seaweed either."
"Good," Tyler frowned, looking like he already regretted his decision to come out with us.
I hummed to myself as I lead the group through the tangles of bushes and trees, listening to Grey and Wesley's easygoing conversation. I was kinda jealous of them. They didn't have the jealous ex-girlfriend factor to account for... unless there was something I didn't know about.
If my friend and my half-brother got together, I would be the last one surprised.
Thinking about relationships made me feel lonely. My arms longed to wrap themselves around Tyler, but they couldn't. I couldn't hug him, and he couldn't even remember me.
"We're here!" Grey finally announced, her excited voice cutting through my thoughts.
The group let out a collective cheer, and I spotted the lake right in front of us through a couple of trees. Although it was almost 9:30 at night, the moon was full, and it reflected off of the lake, making it look shimmery.
