Fun Facts

Hey guys! Here's a silly lil' fun fact chapter for you guys. I'll be covering random things and extras from both Ocean Eyes, and Everything Blue. Hold onto your hats, cause we're going for a ride.

1 - Ocean Eyes was originally made to be a fantasy series where Jenna was a mermaid, and Tyler was a human. Yeah, laugh all you want.

2 - Ocean Eyes was originally going to end without a sequel. It was gonna be a Romeo and Juliett type ending, and they were gonna stay dead. I finally decided that I didn't want an ending ending. I wanted an open ending like this one, one where you guys could come up with your own endings.

3 - Oliver was originally made to be a bigger main character in the book. Guess not.

4 - There was loads of foreshadowing pointing towards the fact that Tyler's case was actually an attempted murder. He didn't leave a suicide note, for example.

5 - For the longest time, I was trying to figure out where to go with Tyler's whole memory situation. At first, I wanted to make him legitimately lose his memory, but still love Jenna and not know why. Then, I wanted to make him pretend to lose his memory so Jenna would have the chance to prove that she loved him because he was insecure about what had happened. (Her running away.)

6 - For the longest time, my plan was to have Jenna be the one to attempt suicide. That's why I started the 'Letters to Jenna' book, because it was gonna turn into a diary of Tyler recollecting Jenna's time in the hospital. I obviously ditched that plan though, because I realized it made more sense that Tyler would attempt suicide.

7 - Josh was originally made to be a crazy serial killer, and he was gonna kill Jenna out of jealousy. Yeah, my original plot was kinda wild.

8 - Jenna was originally made to have schizophrenia, which was why Tyler was scared of her. I settled on ASPD instead, as that was easier to portray and keep up. If I incorporated a mental illness into one of the characters, I couldn't just drop it halfway through the book.

9 - For a long time, I debated on making Sierra have feelings for Jenna. She would've then acted on them, leading to more drama, and eventually, Jenna questioning her own sexuality.

10 - When I first wrote Wesley's character, I didn't have the idea of making him actually be Jenna's half-brother. He was supposed to be a side love interest of Jenna's :D

11- My original plan was to make Luna show up at Tyler's door one day, barge in, and then kiss him as Jenna watched. Jenna and her were then going to get into a fight, and when Jenna asked her who she was, Luna was going to lie and say "Tyler's girlfriend."

12 - For a long time, I debated on making Luna a nice, likable character. Despite how screwed up she is, I've always really liked her. Oops.

13 - The only part of my story inspired by the Forest Fic was the synesthesia. At the time, that was all I really knew about it, so once I found out I was using similar colors as the ones in Forest Fic, I was like, "oh sh*t."

14 - I had considered discontinuing Ocean Eyes many times. I didn't think I could finish. I had zero motivation, and I would get writers block a lot. Hell, I still do. I thought writing a book would be easy, but it wasn't. There was never a giant bang of inspiration and motivation that I expected writers like John Green got. That only proved to me that there was no formula to success. It really is a lot of hard work.

15 - A lot of Ocean Eyes was based off of the songs Tear in my Heart and Oh Ms. Believer. The last chapter of Ocean Eyes was supposed to be based off Truce. The last sentence was supposed to be "I will fear the night again," but I changed it during my last and final editing.

16 - Alsssoooooo, a lot of Everything Blue was based off the songs, Sunday Morning by Maroon 5, and Wonderwall by Oasis.

17 - I'm writing these fun facts before even finishing the book. Actually, I'm writing these around the same time that I'm writing the chapter titled 'Peaches.'
