"Francois Rabelais. He was a poet. And his last words were "I go to seek a Great Perhaps." That's why I'm going. So I don't have to wait until I die to start seeking a Great Perhaps."

"What's the name of our 26th president?" I asked Tyler, reading the question off of my phone.

He clutched my white sofa pillow tighter to his chest, wrinkling his button nose. "What the heck? This isn't even memory related."

"It sure is," I nudged Tyler on the side of the head with my foot.

"This is amnesia recovery, not jeopardy," he complained, and I snorted.

It was surprising to learn how well him and I got along as friends, even though he had no clue that I was deeply in love with him.

Yeah, unfortunate.

Everything felt normal up until I realized that he still didn't remember me.

Although I was discouraged, I vowed to keep my hopes up. Tyler had been doing pretty good with the whole memory thing, recalling a particular moment here and there. None of those moments were about me, though. They were mainly about interviews he'd done or shows he'd played.

"I like to play an instrument. What is it?" I asked Tyler jeopardy-style.

"Piano," he smiled.

It surprised me that he remembered. "Good job," I remarked, feeling like we'd made great progress already.

Tyler raised his eyebrows, seeming impressed with himself. "For some reason, I remember that pretty clearly."

"Do you remember what songs I like to play?" I tried hopefully.

"I don't," he sighed.

"It's okay. What pets do I have?"

"Mhh," Tyler mused, biting his lower lip. Even watching him gave me butterflies, and I tried my hardest to ignore them, feeling tortured by the fact that I couldn't just have him kiss me whenever I wanted.

Hell, I wanted it now. I wanted, needed, to feel his soft, forest-fire lips on mine. It was like I had an insatiable hunger for more and more of him — a need that couldn't be met.

Instead, I was left fantasizing and replaying all of our old kisses in my memories, feeling helpless once more.

"You have a chicken, right?" Tyler finally answered.

I nodded, rolling my shoulders to relieve tension. "What else?"

"A goat?" he said, making me grin.
