Luxe's POV

I check my phone and see this:

Mother: Hello, your father and I are on our way home. Our dinner party was canceled, so we'll be home tonight instead of tomorrow. See you in half an hour.

I smirked to myself and decided that I shouldn't tell Adam that mom and dad are coming home so that his secret relationship will be put on display. I wonder what will happen once their 'perfect son' finally disappoints them.

I check my phone again and see that Ash still hasn't texted me back. I start getting anxious again and try taking slow, even breaths to calm me down.

The dinner party was pretty close to home, so I took my sketch notebook in my arms and carried it downstairs so I could be ready to watch my parents' reaction to Adam and Nova.

I hear that the TV was put on low, so I creep into the living room praying that I'm not about to sneak into something I don't want to see.

Once I look inside I did not see what I expected. Nova was laying on the sofa with Ava falling asleep on top of her. They seemed peaceful as I watched Ava's chest rise and fall and Nova played gently with her hair. Adam was asleep next to them, snoring lightly.

"Ava's asleep?" I whispered, "It's only nine, and that devil child rarely sleeps."

"Maybe all she needs is a a gentle and loving touch." Nova whispered back and smoothed Ava's hair once more. She stuck her tongue out at me, but all I could do is roll my eyes. "Adam wanted me to put her to sleep so we could be alone together, but it seems that Moana is his weakness. Now I know."

I kind of feel bad that my lazy ass brother fell asleep on Nova, so I decide to do my best friend a favor.

"I'm going to get a glass of water. I'll be right back." I say quietly as I walk into the kitchen and fill up a tall glass. Picking it up carefully, I carry it over into the living room and dump all of the water on Adam.

He woke up right away. "Agh Luxe what the hell?! Seriously, what were you thinking? Mom is going to kill me for ruining her sofa."

I scoffed. "Don't worry your pretty little head, Adam. Mom will always blame me whether I did it or not." Adam got up to get a towel.

Ava began to move a little bit, but Nova started rubbing her back to keep her from waking up.

"Nova, you do know that she's six years old right? She doesn't need to be coddled like a baby." I reminded her.

"Eight." I heard Adam say as he came back into the living room with a towel. "She's eight years old. And I think Nova is very sweet to help take care of my sister. Our sister."

Before I could defend myself, the doorbell rang. I nearly had to stop myself from running to open it. This was the perfect moment to humiliate my brother and have him get in trouble with my parents for the first time.

But when I opened the door, I didn't see my parents. Instead, I saw a very bloody and badly beaten Ash.
