Nova's POV
Adam pulled over a chair to sit in and sat next to the bed. "So what are you guys working on?" He asked, looking at my notebook.
"Well, Mr Samos gave us an assignment to make a visual representation of anything we will be learning this unit and present it to the class on Monday. We just have no idea what to do it on." I handed him the list of options.
He glanced over the sheet and and showed us a topic. "You should research the Romanov family from the Russian Revolution. I remember that Mr Samos told us he did his final paper in graduate school on the mystery of Anastasia. You would ace the project if you did it on her. And I happen to know a lot about her."
I smiled. Luxe was fake gagging behind him. She can be quite dramatic.
"Oh ok. I'll make the poster if you coach me on the presentation part." I started sketching a picture of Anastasia that I found online. While I was drawing, Adam started telling me the story of Anastasia.
After a while Luxe grew impatient. "Is this a group project or not? Or do you two plan on doing this whole thing without me?"
Adam scoffed. "And what exactly could you do to make yourself useful?"
"Why don't you do the presentation part and I'll make the poster?" I offered, hoping to avoid an argument.
Luxe nodded and took notes reluctantly on what he was saying.
By the end of the night, I had finished the drawing and Luxe memorized exactly what Adam told her to say.
"Thank you for your help." I smiled at Adam.
"You're very welcome. Anytime you have a project, just come over and I'd be more than happy to help." Adam got up and began to leave, when I stopped him.
"Aren't you going back to college soon? I thought your break was almost over." Once he goes back, Luxe's house will feel so different.
"Hey, I'll be back in a month for winter break, and in the meantime we can text. Put your number in my phone." Adam reached in his pocket and took out his iPhone and handed it to me. I entered my number, and handed it back.
"Isn't it weird that you'll be texting my best friend, and you won't even talk to me?" Luxe chuckled.
Adam didn't even look at her and left.
Tonight was very productive. Now Adam has my number and I'm about to get an A on this project.
I just hope that Adam's winter break comes soon.
