With his face as red as a tomato and his eyes wild with anger, Asher stares at himself in the camera of his iPhone and says, "Very funny."
Elizabeth turns to meet Ruth's gaze, and when she peers at Ruth's dumbfounded expression, she realizes what she has just done. Firstly, she just toyed with a boy. Secondly, she got revenge on him for flicking her brothers off. Thirdly, she just did something she never would have imaged her doing. She doesn't cuss, let alone write cuss words on popular, rich boys' foreheads!
Elizabeth's stomach does a flip-flop inside of her as she shrugs her shoulders at Ruth, not knowing what to say.
"Since it's my turn, I'm gonna ask you again. Truth or dare, Elizabeth?" Asher asks, his voice and eyes challenging her.
No chance she is going to give him the opportunity to draw on her face. "Truth."
"Is it true you're still a virgin?" Asher questions, drawing everyone's eyes to Elizabeth's glowering face.
"True..." Elizabeth murmurs as a few people chuckle, a few smile, and the rest just stare at her.
"Jay." The words fall from Elizabeth's lips like a song. "Truth or dare."
Jay, turning his head to face her, gazes into her eyes, and as if it is no big deal, he shrugs and says, "Dare."
Elizabeth's mouth twitches into a grin. "I dare you to go downstairs and sing a karaoke song in front of everyone."
"No way." Jay disagrees almost instantly, his lips contorting into a scowl. His light green eyes narrow at Elizabeth. "No way."
Elizabeth shrugs awkwardly, but Ruth backs her up. "You have to, Jay. You said dare."
"I don't have to do anything." Jay argues, his bushy eyebrows raising. He rakes a hand through his messy black hair and says, "No."
Now it's Asher who chimes in. "Come on Jay!" He rises from his seat and motions toward the stairs. "I'll ask the Dj to play any song you want."
"What?" Jay gasps as a few other arise. "No, I'm not singing."
Elizabeth finds herself grinning so widely when Dae and David help the whining Jay to his feet and drag him toward the door. Everyone else cheers and Ruth bumps Elizabeth, saying, "This should be interesting."
Asher's group, the few strangers, and Elizabeth and Ruth move to the balcony in the hallway while Asher rushes down the stairs and Jay, trudging, follows. The pumping music thunders from speakers in the crowded room, but the songs and the dances come to a stop when Asher jumps on the platform and asks the Dj to cut it off.
Elizabeth smiles broadly as Jay hops on the platform and gazes nervously at all of the confused teenagers in the room. Most are intoxicated and sway, some mess with their phones, but all have curious expressions plastered across their faces.
Asher murmurs something to the Dj, and the Dj, after hesitating, nods and passes Asher the microphone. Asher faces the crowd and says, "Hey everyone! You wanna hear something cool?"
Half the crowd cheers in excitement. "Alright, well my friend Jay got dared to sing a karaoke song, so you're gonna have to listen."
"Okay, Dick." Someone laughs abruptly, but Asher just rolls his eyes and shrugs it off.
He hands the mic over to Jay, and Jay stalks to center stage. He tucks a hand in the pocket of his pants, and he frowns, saying, "I can't sing."
"Boo!" Someone yells from the crowd of teenagers.
Asher murmurs something to the Dj, and the music begins playing a few minutes after. Elizabeth recognizes the song within seconds and she nearly loses her top. The song is Chandelier by Sia. Such a perfect fit for a dare.
