Jay organizes a meet up with Elizabeth to make up for all of his mistakes. Mr. Gaz surprises everyone with the news that they will be ice skating on their field trip.
***NATALIE'S P.O.V***
"Damn it." Natalie growls as her hands slap against the ice and her dark hair hangs in front of her eyes. Not seconds later, there is a pair of hands helping her up gently. Once on her feet, she gazes into Sam's humored gaze and sighs. "I suck."
"No you don't." Sam replies, shaking his head with his curls swaying. "You've never done it before. You're learning."
Natalie smiles at Sam's reassuring hazel eyes, but as she takes another step forwards her skate slips right out from under her. She slams onto her back, the breath being sucked out of her. Along with her soon-to-be-bruised body, Sam collapses too, slipping on the freezing ice.
Natalie might've grabbed onto his strong hand for support and taken him down with her. Oops.
Sam lies beside her, laughing so hard that he has to hold his stomach. His dimples catch Natalie's attention, bringing happiness in to her. "Why are you laughing at me?"
Natalie rolls her eyes when he laughs even harder, literally wheezing. The twinkle in his eyes is heart-stopping, but Natalie just shoves him and says, "Stop it."
She attempts to angrily rise to her feet, but she doesn't stay up for long.
***ASHER'S P.O.V***
"Well, shit." He mumbles as he watches Elizabeth soar across the ice-skating rink. Her brown hair flutters behind her, cascading through the air and alluring many curious eyes. Her skates glide and cut through the foggy ice like it's no big deal at all and takes no effort. Her skinny body twirls, circles, spins, and drifts like nobody else's out on the rink.
The rink is huge, but even when she's all the way on the other side of it, both Asher's and Jay's attentions are caught like a fly in a spider web. Jay mumbles, "How is she doing that?"
As if he has been listening the entire time, Hanes steps up to the glass beside them and tells, "We used to live in Utah. There was a pond in town everyone used to skate at. I'd say we got pretty good."
His smirk is boastful as he walks away and steps on the ice himself, but he doesn't do it the correct way. Instead, he turns around and begins skating backwards, waving to both the boys before twirling and taking off quicker than a bottle rocket.
"Alrighty then... Ugh..." Jay says under his breath as he watches Hanes scratch marks on the surface of the rink. "Have you ever ice skated before?"
"Once." Asher responds. Jay's facial features brighten at the sound of his statement, but they quickly flash back to normal when Asher says, "When I was six."
"Are we about to make fools of ourselves?" Jay asks Asher, but he says it as if it is a statement and not a question.
The skating rink is outside and under a huge awning, a few splotches of morning sun glinting off the cool ice. A few specks of it even catch Elizabeth's hair as she gracefully skids to a stop on the opposite side of the glass. "Are you guys going to skate, or what?"
Asher silently curses himself as he shrugs and nods. "Sure. it can't be that hard, can it?"
Elizabeth's uncanny smile doesn't reassure Asher one bit, but he takes an unenthusiastic step onto the ice. He doesn't slip, to his surprise. Actually, he doesn't move at all.
