"What the hell, man?" The man with the knife to Elizabeth's left says, his voice scratchy and rough. "We were supposed to kill the kid and get out before any questions were asked."

"I know, but there were three kids instead of one." The big man says, just as the three of them turn and begin walking on the crowded streets. Elizabeth keeps her mouth closed, angry and scared tears ready to fall from her blue eyes at her command. Every time either man accidentally bumps into her, the knife scraps at the skin on her back.

"You're a giant, you idiot. Who cares if there are three kids?" The smaller man says. "Now we have a fuckin' hostage and twenty witnesses."

"I thought I killed her. I thought she was dead." The tall man growls, making sure he is heard. "Then, she surprised me and escaped."

"Well, now our whole family is screwed, you moron." The shorter guy states. "The cops will definitely be on our asses." The guy looks straight ahead, yet Elizabeth can see the evil lurking in his gray irises. "Did you at least kill the one we weren't able to kill before?"

The big man hesitates as Elizabeth holds her breath. "No. I almost did, until this bitch ran out of the room like a psychopath."

"Yeah, I'm the psychopath." Elizabeth remarks numbly. She winces when the sadistic one wedges the blade of his knife deeper into her back.

"I wouldn't be talking if I were you. You're lucky you're still alive." The man whispers in her ear with the voice of a demon. "Who knows when we will decide to kill you?"

The three of them make another turn as Elizabeth makes a mental note as to which way they went and which way they are headed. As if that would help her. She'll probably be dead in the next twenty four hours, if she lasts that long.

"What the hell are we going to do?" The big man asks, ruffling a hand through his curly brown hair. Both men are irritated, angry, and ready to kill Elizabeth the first chance they get. She has to do something.

"You could offer me up to the cops for your freedom." Elizabeth mumbles just loud enough for the two of them to hear.

"The cops would never go for a deal. As soon as they had us in their sights, they would shoot us." The smaller man says, sending her a look of pity. "Good try though."

"I don't think she realizes the trail of bodies we have left in our wake is long enough to stretch a mile, if more." The taller man says, giving Elizabeth a wicked stare.

Elizabeth's heart flip-flops. "Shut up. Don't give her any more information, you dimwad."

"She'll be dead soon, anyways." The buff one replies.

Elizabeth zones out of their conversation as she feels the sudden vibration of her cell phone going off. At the same time, fear and hope zap her insides and shoot adrenaline in her veins. Sneakily, she tries to answer it, but she fails and the call ends.

She has to think about this for the long run. So, she glances down at her leg--where her iPhone rests--and presses the dial button. Neither men notice being that the smaller man is off on a rant about how stupid the larger one is.

She taps the nine and quickly glances away, making sure to not notify them about her tactics. Then, she sees another chance and quietly selects the one button, twice. To her astonishment and surprise, Elizabeth's phone begins a call.
