***ELIZABETH'S P.O.V***
Elizabeth has been sitting on the opposite side of the elevator's little building eavesdropping on Asher's and Jay's conversation. She is about to go out and confront both of the boys about their topic of conversation, but as she peers around the side of the building she witnesses Jay shove Asher hard, as if Jay has been waiting for ages to give him a good push.
Elizabeth sinks back as she watches Asher ball up both of his fists. Ugh oh.
Asher throws a punch at Jay, and Jay takes it right in the mouth, blood squirting from his lips almost immediately after Asher's skin touches his. Elizabeth's hands rise up to her mouth as she covers it and her heart begins beating twice as fast as it was before.
She is expecting Jay to fire back at Asher, but Jay merely turns his head up slowly and says, "See. Look what is happening. It's Elizabeth's fucking fault."
"It's not her fault, man. She's just some girl who moved here and has gotten to us." Asher informs Jay, shaking his head. "Look, I'm sorry for hitting you. But seriously man, you are being a douche."
"She's the only one that cares about me and if you get into a relationship with her..."
Asher shuts his eyes. "She isn't the only one who cares about you. Everyone does. You just have to pay attention to them."
"I don't think-"
The conversation carries on and on but Elizabeth doesn't hear another word of it. Instead, the same sentence that Asher said rolls over and over in her mind, "She's just some girl".
Elizabeth holds her breath. How could Asher truly love her when all he thinks of her as is "just some girl"?
Elizabeth's heart cracks bit by bit and the only reason she stops counting how many times is because her phone erupts into a bunch of chime noises, which means she is getting a call. She forgot to put the thing on silent, and now, it is turning both boys' heads to her.
It's like she is a deer in headlights as her eyes widen, her jaw drops slightly, and the world tilts on its axis. She'd rather be in the middle of a play and not know her next lines than be noticed by two guys of whom both like her and are talking about it.
"Elizabeth?" Asher and Jay ask at the exact same time, making her heart freeze in its cage.
"Umm... Hi." Is Elizabeth's pitiful reply.
"How long have you been standing back there?" Jay questions her with a look of utter astonishment.
"The... entire... time..." Elizabeth mumbles under her breath, but apparently both boys hear what she says because both flinch back.
"You're kidding." Jay gasps, combing a nervous hand through his short, dark hair.
"I'm not kidding one bit." Elizabeth figures she has to make an exit soon or else this will get intensely awkward, so she goes for a dramatic one. "And I'm also not breaking your friendship up." Elizabeth glances angrily at Jay. Then to Asher, "And I'm also not 'just some girl'."
Elizabeth struts to the elevator and clicks the button, but when she turns around to face the boys with a smirk both of them are on her tail. Asher says, "You know that's not what I meant."
"I know that what you mean is what you say." Elizabeth scowls at both of them, feeling proud for sticking up for herself. "And I mean it when I say that both of you boys need to stay up here and not follow me down." The elevator doors glide open and Elizabeth steps inside. To her triumph, neither boy takes a step forward. "Because both of you are on my bad side right now."
