"Three days?" Jay repeats what the doctor has just said as he sits up and swallows. "I have to stay here two nights?!"
"Yes." The hispanic doctor sends him a sympathetic half-smile in the hospital room's bright lights. "You had an emergency surgery following a stabbing. You have to stay two nights in order to be released."
"What the hell." Jay mumbles, closing his eyes.
"Yeah. And we also need to know how you plan to pay for the procedure." The doctor says. Jay's green eyes snap wide again.
Jay sighs, shaking his head. "Have you called my mom?"
"We did. And your father. We got no response." The doctor says, shifting his weight and tucking his clipboard under his arm.
"Well you can put the bills on their credit card." Jay flashes a ruthless smile and waves the clipboard over. The doctor stalks over to him, meeting his gaze with dark brown eyes and a falling frown. "I'll actually put it on my step dad's. That'll be great."
"Where are they?" The doctor questions, handing over the object. As Jay takes it, he shrugs.
"Home." Jay mumbles, blinking. He starts scribbling information, the pen moving quicker every passing second that he gets angrier. "They don't care about me. I'm on a trip." Jay nearly rips a hole in the paper. "They wouldn't even know I was dead if I died."
Jay wants to continue on and on about how much he dislikes his parents for treating him the way they are, but to be honest with himself he is more sad than mad. Instead of feeling a boiling sensation in his gut he feels an empty hole. An empty hole that should be filled with love.
Jay finishes writing the information down and glances up at the doc. "There. Happy?"
"Sure." The doctor nods, once again tucking the clipboard under his arm. "Would you like us to try them again?"
"No." Jay frowns. "No thanks. They'll find out and when they do, they don't give a damn."
"Okay. Well, we do have visiting hours. Would you like me to inform your friends of that?" The doctor asks, his eyebrows slanting.
"What friends?" Jay asks, blinking blankly.
"There's like ten of them in the waiting room." The doctor cracks a smile, motioning to the door.
"Ten?" Jay says, losing his breath. Suddenly, the hole inside him is filled. "Wow. Yeah. Would you tell them about that?"
"Sure." The doc nods kindly.
"Thanks." Jay replies as the doctor exits the small hospital room.
He doesn't need his parents to love him when he has loving friends by his side. Right?
***ASHER'S P.O.V***
When the cops came back with the news that Jay will have to remain in the hospital for three more days, Asher wanted to walk right out of the building to find Elizabeth, but he stayed put, knowing his friend needs him.
