Chapter 10 - Flying T.Vs
The panther in Roman knew that Marissa was going to be his, but for now it wanted to play and see how far she would bend under his will. But by the fiery look in her brown eyes, that wasn't going to be very far.
"Eat," he gestured to the tray.
Her glare was exactly what he'd been expecting and as she picked up another of the cereal bars and unwrapped it, his cat was smiling deep down as it watched her play the game. She took a bite and he really couldn't resist poking the glaring beast before him, "See, no poisons, right?"
She opened her mouth to lash out at him but there was a knock on the door before it opened and the wolf, Randy walked into the room. Instantly Marissa was off the bed and flying into his arms for a huge hug. A twisting feeling of envy and worry about their relationship curled in his gut at her genuine happiness to see her friend, but he shoved it lower in his stomach and stood from his seat.
Randy hugged Marissa tightly before moving back to look her up and down, "You alright?" Roman heard the worry in his tone and saw the sagging relief in the line of his shoulders.
Marissa nodded. "What about you? They didn't lock you up again did they?" She asked, stepping back slightly to get a whole look at him to check fr herself.
"Nope, unless food is now torture in which case I am completely full of it." Randy grinned at her and she just smiled back at him.
Roman hated ruining the moment, but his mate needed to rest and he not only had to figure out what to do with her but he had to deal with the house fire and the orb that had been stolen from their pack. "Sorry to break this happy reunion, but you still need rest," he told Marissa. "The door won't be locked but there will be a guard up here to make sure that you actually do get some rest and don't tire yourself out." Then he moved towards her and picked her back up again and moved her back to the bed.
Instantly Marissa started kicking up a fuss like a six year-old. Randy didn't help the situation at all when he said, "I completely agree, Marissa. You need to relax." She just kicked up a bigger fuss and started kicking her legs out.
Roman put her on the bed and hastily made his way with Randy out of the room before turning around and shutting the door behind him. He called over to the Sentry that had brought Randy up there. The young man came over to him, "Yes Alpha?"
"Make sure that she does not leave this room under any circumstances."
"Yes Alpha!" He said before standing beside the door. Roman nodded to Randy who followed him down the hallway and down the stairs.
It was silent for a short while as he contemplated how to ask his question. When moments went by and both he and his inner panther had absolutely no clue what to say, he just blurted it out, "Are you and Marissa...together?"
Instantly Randy had a look of disgust on his face, "Gross! That would be like me dating my sister. I don't know how it is around here but that is gigantic no-no where I come from. Bleh!"
Roman just growled slightly at the insult, "That is not a practice here and I only ask because you both seem very close."
Randy rolled his eyes, "I repeat, that's because she's like my sister."
Roman nodded. He could understand, a lot of people around here were like that because everyone had practically grown up together. Most became close enough, like he was with his Commanders. They all shared ties that made them stronger as a pack, as a family.
"Does she feel the same way?" He knew that sometimes women tended to be much more emotional and that men were sometimes obtuse enough to miss their subtle or blinding hints depending on the kind of woman.
"Definitely. We talked about it when we were still kids - no funny stuff. She never had a brother and I don't really like my sisters so we just became our own mini family and there is nothing in the world that would break it."
Roman let out an inner sigh of relief on that front before another question was making its way out of his mouth. "What about a boyfriend? One that might miss her whilst she's away?"
Randy let out a snort before he could hold it back, "Yeah, right, and I'm the Great Gazoo." He continued to laugh.
"What's so funny about her having a boyfriend?" Then he felt a punch in the gut, "She isn't..."
Randy took one look at him and almost fell to the ground laughing. He laughed so hard at Roman's question that he turned red and had a tear escape his eyes, "Oh gosh, I haven't laughed that hard in ages." Roman glared at him and Randy smiled, "No she isn't. She definitely likes men. The only problem is that they don't seem to know how to handle her."
They stopped moving down the stairs, "What do you mean?"
Randy snickered, "The last time she had a boyfriend, he was a complete dirt-bag. Because he didn't know how to calm her down when she got really riled, you know when she gets that crazy fire in her, he suggested she go run it off and lose some weight at the same time. Biggest mistake in the history of man kind."
Roman was pissed. From what he saw, Marissa was perfect. There was nothing about her that he would ever want to change, especially not her anger as it showed how passionate she was. When she got that fiery look in her eyes and her cheeks flushed adorably, making her eyes look darker. He was entranced by her and he couldn't tell why this idiot had said what he had. "What did she do to him?"
Randy smiled as he kept on walking down the steps, "She threw his t.v after him down a flight of stairs."
Roman smiled at that, knowing that the gesture fit perfectly with her and caught up with Randy as they made it to the ground floor where the kitchen, dining room and main living room of the Pack House were.
Randy suddenly stopped and turned back around to Roman, "Why are you asking?"
Roman lead him outside before answering, "What have you noticed about Marissa lately?"
Randy scrunched up his nose and though back "I think...her scent. It doesn't seem like it's the same as before.£
Roman nodded, "Us shifters have this gift to find the true matches to our heart; our other halves. We call them mates. Once we find each other, we know instinctively who they are and then we begin to merge. It tends to start out with something that tells you both that you're meant to be together and then the merging begins until you both accept it. Other people tend to notice it too."
"What kind of signal?" Randy asked intrigued.
"Usually an electric shock. The power of it shows how strong the couple is likely to be once they mate. After that their scents change and both develop strong bonds with the other once they have both accepted it. Do you understand?"
Randy was completely blank-faced. Roman almost face palmed himself at the stupidity of his mate-to-be's best friend and brother.
Wolfy isn't as cunning as us cats, cut him some slack, laughed his panther.
It took Roman to count down from 10 until Randy realized what Roman was actually saying. Randy just gave him a wide eyed look and shook his head.
"What?" Roman asked, not knowing what Randy's thought were towards Roman dating and possibly mating with the person he called sister.
If he tries to keep us and we go through him, she will not accept us, hissed his panther.
"Mate, I wish you the best of luck." Then he grinned at him, "She will not make this easy." Randy turned and went back into the house.
Roman let out a mental sigh. I didn't think so, he thought before turning back into the house to head back to his room.
