Chapter 41- Special Guests
Marissa was floating. That was the only way she could describe how wonderfully comfortable she was. Just floating in a warm light. If she could, she would stay like this. She didn't need to move her arms or her legs; she didn't need them for anything. That and she couldn't move them even if she wanted to.
Wake up sleepy head, a soft feminine voice whispered to her.
Marissa, please you need to wake up, another voice, more masculine and filled with worry. It clawed at her heart and brought back flashes of memories. Memories of someone. Please, Mer, you've got to wake up. Come back to me. The pain in that voice made the bubble of light surrounding her pop and she found herself surrounded by darkness.
She tried to follow after it, the voice filled with pain and something she knew. That feeling, that thing that echoed within her resonated the same sounds of longing and it hurt her. She tried to look for the source of the sound but couldn't find it. Taking a moment, she took a breath and closed her eyes. The voice rang out again, calling to her and this time, she imagined a hook latching onto that haunting voice.
Marissa, please. I love you. There's no way you can escape me. You need to wake up!
Suddenly, she felt the hook catch on and a second later, she was being propelled forward. Voices seemed to get louder, pulling her forward and crowding her mind. Bleeps filled the background as voices and screams and fast chatter filled her ears. She couldn't hear the voice. His voice. The voice that was so full of pain and something that pulled at her heart and she knew she needed.
"Be quiet!" she told the them all. The sounds stopped around her and she finally sighed in peace, thankful for the quiet so she could search for him. She opened her eyes and found the light still shining in her eyes. She tried rubbing at them and realised that she could move her hands. She tried opening her eyes again and this time the bright light was gone.
When she saw him, her heart fluttered and she knew that there was nothing in the world that would pull her away from him again. His eyes were brimming with pain and hope. The combination hurt her heart, especially since she was the one that put it there. His hair was a spiked mess, probably from running his hands through it. His five o'clock shadow looked closer to a beard than just stubble but she didn't care.
"Roman." His name was like music to her ears, even though her voice wasn't. It was all scratchy and torn up but at that moment she didn't care. She held her hand up to his face. His beard scratched at her skin but when he turned his face and placed a kiss in the centre of his palm, her memories of everything flooded back at once.
She knew the shock on her face was clear when he moved forward, hushing her and pulling her up to his chest to hug her. "It's ok Mer. Everything is fine. Nobody got hurt." She wrapped her arms around him and put her face in the crook of his neck, taking in his warmth. His scent swam around her head and she found the tension and fear from the memories of the explosion melt away.
He pulled back and cupped her face, "Never again, do you hear me? Don't you ever do something that stupid ever again."
She smiled at him, knowing that this was him getting out all the worry and pain that he'd felt. "I was trying to save you. But next time, if you want something to explode and kill you all, just say so."
"I don't care, just don't ever put yourself in that kind of danger." When he leaned forward, his lips touching hers, she felt tingles of heat and electricity run rampant across her senses.
