Epilogue - My Best Mishap

~Two weeks later~

Marissa stood looking out of the window. The view was of the entire town that now felt like home to her. Massive trees stood tall and gave cover to their homes from the eyes of nosy humans who, if they knew what was here, would do unspeakable things to her people.

Her people, she thought, smiling as she watched a bear cub  that looked suspiciously like Marty race from the forest line to the front porch of one of the houses.

She looked to Draconia who sat on the sill with one of the ambrosia blossoms, which grew to be roughly the same size as her small four-inch frame, in her arms. She sat on the window sill, her legs swinging happily and dangling over the edge as she flitted her wings happily behind her and took small bites of the flower. Looking at the little sprite, Marissa still couldn't figure out where all of that food went since she was still as small as the day she'd been technically born. But the sprite was now hers and was just as much family as the rest of the people below.

Looking back out at the vast forest, Marissa remembered waking up in that hospital bed two weeks ago. Meridia had left, promising to keep an eye on them, even though they probably wouldn't know it if she did, but Kentrix had stayed behind and made a deal that Marissa no longer felt was completely stupid.

The deal had been that her and Roman would accept and teach shifters that Kentrix found lost in the world, and for that service, she would teach Marissa to use her powers and provide them with the special ambrosia blossoms that Draconia needed to survive.

Marissa had scoffed, saying that she didn't have powers, but Kentrix had only smiled. Roman pretty much had the same thought and because of his caring nature that she'd come to love dearly in the past few weeks since she'd first met him, he'd agreed to take in shifters that would abide by his rules. Kentrix had smiled and said she'd see them soon before disappearing just as Meridia had in a flash of light.

It was a few days later when Marissa was helping the other women clean up in the kitchens after dinner that they realised what Kentrix had been talking about. All she'd done was sneeze and when she'd opened her eyes, the cubs were all floating in the air and their parents were running around trying to get their kids to stay down and agree with the rules of gravity. When she'd sneezed again, everyone came hurtling back to the ground. The cubs had loved it and tried making her do it again but she'd just blushed, apologised and walked out of the kitchen and straight into Roman's laughing arms.

Since then, tiny little things had been happening , but thankfully after that incident, a strange book had appeared in their room and she'd been steadily learning to control her new 'gifts' as they were. Apparently having a sprite enhanced a person's link to the threads of magic that tied the magical realms together and her growing link to Draconia was making it grow, increasing her power until the bond was fully formed; but nobody was ever sure how long that would take. Until then, her powers would keep growing and she needed to be able to control them.

She was deep in thought when a pair of warm muscled arms snaked around her waist and a warm breath hit the side of her neck. "Hey," she let out a sigh as she leaned back against Roman. Since she'd woken up in that hospital bed, he tended not to let her out of his site at all if he could help it. A lot of accidents always seemed to happen around her, but it wasn't as though she could actually help it. Accidents were attracted to her, not the other way around.

"What's wrong?" he asked her. Again, she was surprised that he knew her so well. "Come on, I can feel that something's running around that head of yours Marissa and its causing you pain."
