Chapter 13 - Calming A Volcano

As Roman and Marissa walked down the corridor, him ignoring her whilst she rattled on about how the entire situation was morally unjust, he couldn't help but feel satisfaction coil in his gut. He'd cornered her into staying in his apartment. That alone meant that she would spend time with him and that could lead to her liking him, possibly even accepting his proposal to become his mate by the end of this crazy fiasco.

She's not as cunning as us cats, purred his delighted inner panther.

Roman had to agree. And under the pretence of keeping her with him at all times, an infinite amount of possible things he could tempt her with were speeding through his mind.

There really is no chance of us letting her go, is there? he sighed questioningly at his panther.

Not really, but would you want to? the panther asked back. Roman took a look at Marissa.

She wasn't as exotic as most people, just a slight tilt to her eyes and a light golden-honey glow of her skin. But it was her nature, her fiery passion that lit up her eyes and had her spitting out a hundred words a second to try and fight for control. Her unstoppable nature was something that pulled on him like a leash and for the life of him, and his panther, he never wanted to let go.

Doesn't mean I'll give her all the control though, he thought sparkly.

"-and there is no chance that I will stay with-"

Roman spun around to her and put a hand on her shoulder, looking straight into her startled eyes. He could feel the small shocks rock against him but trying hard not to show her that he felt anything. "There is no arguing with me on this. You will stay with me at all times until we get the orb back. You know where it is and you are the only person they do not expect to steal it back. Am I understood?"

There was a moment of complete shock before she burst out again in her anger, "Who the hell are you to tell me what I can and cannot do? "Am I understood" my ass. Do you realize how pompous you sound or are you just generally like this. We are going to have so many problems if you expect me to follow you around and obey like some dog."

She shut up as soon as those last words came out of her mouth and put a hand over her mouth. "Oh my goodness, I did not mean that last bit-not as an insult or anything like that to you...shifters or anything. it's just an expression....eh...."

Roman smiled, finding her rambling apology hilarious, "Don't worry. I get it. But there is still no chance of me leaving you alone so don't bother. Save your breath for later." Then he spun and kept going down the stairs. There was a pause before he heard her footsteps jogging to keep up with his.

"When are you going to let me go? I'm not a threat and if you think about it, people would probably just think I'm insane."

"I already told you that you have to stay until we get the orb back and all this bad luck is gone." He shook his head and looked to her, "Nobody thinks you're sane as it is, but there is still the problem of you telling them where we are."

She rolled her eyes, "If nobody thinks I'm sane then why would they come looking?"

"There are fanatics in the world that would believe you, which would put us all in danger. There is no getting out of this Marissa."

"You have an overactive imagination, y'know that?" she said to him.

Roman shrugged, knowing that what he described had happened in the past and not many had survived those attacks. "Probably, but can you argue against it?"

"Well...no..." her nose scrunched up as she thought about it.

"There you go then," he smiled, knowing he'd won his first argument against her and that in itself was a rare thing.

Suddenly he stopped and turned to face her. She walked right into him and he grabbed onto her arm to steady her. His panther purred at how delicious she felt standing pressed against him, her heart fluttering against her chest, but the man just narrowed his thoughts to one question, "Does anyone know where you are? Will they come looking for you?"

"Um," she floundered, "uh, no. My father's on a cruise. But the staff at my clinic might question where I am if I don't come in after tomorrow."

"You'll have to call them and tell them that you'll need more time," he mumbled as his thoughts caught up with his body and the fact that her heart sounded like it was running a marathon.

He held back a smile, knowing that she definitely felt something, besides anger, towards him. Stepping back, full of satisfaction of this knowledge, he spoke softly to her, "Let's go feed your hunger."

He spun around, trying to hide his smile at the shock so evident on her face. It took her a few moments to snap out of it, of that Roman and his panther were both delighted in, before she caught up to him.

They finally made it to the bottom of the staircase, where he could see her analyzing every little detail before he lead her to the right where the kitchens were, following his nose and the grumbling of her stomach.
