Chapter 19 - Dreams make Good Jokes

Marissa didn't know what was going on but at this point, she couldn't care less.

Everything around her was lit up with a soft golden light. The plush round bed in the centre of the room, which was where she lay lazily on the softest pillows she had ever slept on, the decadent chandelier that hung with tiny teardrop crystals above her head, even the moulding on the walls which formed beautiful intricate patterns glowed.

It all seemed too ethereal and at that moment, half asleep as she was, she really didn't care. She didn't even care that there was someone sitting in front of her.

Wait, what? Her eyes snapped open and she looked around again. She didn't recognise the room at all. She looked down at herself, thankful that she wasn't in something that would only mean that she'd fallen into the plot of a really bad romance novel.

"Don't worry, you'll be there in a bit. I just had to butt in for a few moments," a familiar voice said to her. She looked to her left and found a young girl sitting on a small stool by a vanity table. Her hair was white, her skin almost pale for all colour except for the golden light coming from what appeared to be nowhere because there weren't any windows, and even her dress was white. She didn't have a spec of colour on her, as thought she was...blank.

"You're...you're...the voice in my head!" Marissa said, almost hyperventilating with the fact that her hallucination was this extensive. Face palming herself she groaned, "Damn it, I did lose too much blood. I'm probably still unconscious and all this is just a really good hallucination."

The girl smiled, "You'd think so but no. I have to make this quick because someone else is pulling at your mind. You need to get the orb back."

Marissa rubbed at her eyes, "Thank you for that startling piece of advice but I already know that. I do want to actually leave this place with a bit of freedom and that seems to be the only way I'm getting it."

The girl's head tilted, her plain gaze questioning, "No you don't. You can't leave and you have to understand that."

Marissa yawned, "What the hell is up with this cryptic crap? Don't you know I'm supposed to be sleeping?"

"Not likely with where you're about to go," the figure snorted.

"You know," she said, laying back down on the bed. Her eyes felt heavy so she shut them, "your still pretty cryptic..."

"Yeah, well so's that stupid panther right now," were the last words she heard before the blackness overtook her again.

This time when she woke up, Marissa knew where she was. She recognized the bed, the pictures on the walls, the chest of drawers. She was back in Roman's bedroom. She groaned, "Damn, what a dream."

"Want to explain it then?" asked Roman from behind her. Marissa froze before turning over on the bed. Roman lay next to her, resting on his side with his head held up on his palm. HIs hair was dishevelled and his eyes were glowing their gem-like green. He was also completely naked with only part of the blanket covering him up.

Marissa blinked, taking in the entire scene before jumping out of the bed and sprinting to the other side of the room, careful about not moving the blanket and completely revealing Roman. "What the hell Roman! Get out of here!"

He let out a suffering sigh as he rolled his eyes at her. "This is a dream and you put me here. Not my call...exactly." He smiled widely at her, his eyes darkening and the green shining brighter.

Marissa swallowed, try to shove down the chills that wanted to erupt all over her body. "Well, I'm ending it right now. Out. Go!"

Roman lay on his back and bent his arms under his head, "Dreams don't tend to work in the way you want them to. Especially if you don't actually want them to disappear."

She let out a sigh and put her head in her hands, "I really need to sleep; my brain is just jumping about now with ridiculous ideas. I mean, look at you!" she pointed at him.

Roman looked down at himself then looked up at her, "I'm not really seeing anything wrong with me."

"That's exactly my point!" He grinned at her and she blushed, "Not like that...I mean...Argh! Just get the hell out of my head!"

He rolled his eyes at her, "You do realize that fantasizing is normal, don't you?"

"Not for me, now kindly make your way out of my dreams otherwise I will force myself awake and you'll just turn into smoke."

"Ha! You just don't know how to face me," he grinned at her as he sat up. His movements brought Marissa's gaze to his washboard abs and the lean muscles that encompassed his bicep. She found her thoughts scattering.

Shaking her head, she snapped her thoughts back to his grinning face and mischievous eyes, "You are dangerous and I know exactly how to handle you." She closed her eyes and imagined him getting up and moving out the door. She pictured it so vividly in her mind that when she opened her eyes and he was gone, she broke out into a wide grin.

That was before a pair of thick arms wrapped around her midsection and pulled backwards. She hit a strong chest which heated up her entire back. She froze as a hot breath hit her ear, "You can't get rid of me that easily. You're mine." With that proclamation she felt a soft bite on her neck.

Sensations erupted all over her body, finally waking her up.

Marissa snapped awake from the odd dream and a hand automatically went to her neck. It was still tender, which confused her completely. She let it go, shaking the remnants of the dream from her mind.

"Morning." The sound of Roman's voice made her jump, squealing as she spun round to face him. He was shirtless and had a toothbrush in his mouth as he stood at the bathroom door.

He raised his brow at her shriek but she just shook her head, "Geesh, what the hell's wrong with you, sneaking up on people like that?"

"Well it is my bathroom. And besides," he looked down at himself before looking back up at her with a laughing glint in his eyes, "I'm not really seeing anything wrong with me. Not my fault I walk as silent as a cat." He walked back into the bathroom.

Marissa didn't hear the last of his sentence because his words had reminded her of exactly what he'd said in her dream. She could already feel her cheeks heating up and she looked away before he caught it, trying to calm herself before facing him again.

"Randy brought some clothes for you, by the way," he said to her as he walked back into the bedroom pulling on his shirt. "He's waiting outside for you so we can all head down to breakfast."

"Uh, huh," was all she said as she heard him shut the door behind as he left. She let out a sigh and fell back onto the bed. Her brain had run amok last night. First, it had taken her to a beautiful room where a blank woman, because that was what she was, who told her to find the orb - something she was already going to do because it was her ticket to her freedom. Then she'd been dropped into a fantasy which involved her and Roman. Seeing him in the flesh after something like that pulled at her nerves and frazzled her mind.

Her hand came up to the side of her neck. Obviously her brain was still pretty frazzled because her nerves were still shooting up tingles every time she touched the spot.

Shaking her head, she got up from the bed to wash her face and get changed to start a new day; and hopefully to forget one of the oddest nights in her life

A/N: So I tried out the steamy little scene between Roman and Marissa because...well...to be honest I don't know. But I do know that it was a little funny too. Hope it worked and please, any romance writers out there - now would be the time to speak and let me know how I did with this :3
