Redemption "Duel" 2: Another One Bites the Dust

Hello again, bloodsword. Normally this would be the part where I welcome your two new competitors to Redemption Island, however Round 3 saw two people remove themselves from SD:MMR completely. More on that in the Round 3 Results part, to be posted later!

You won the first duel, and normally you'd have a couple more people to fight, but due to some unforeseen complications that won't be happening.

So consider yourself the winner of Redemption "Duel" 2.

But we've gotta occupy you somehow, don't we?

You don't even need to do this. It will be for your own enjoyment, but also for a reward that will be granted to you should you make it out of Redemption Island and get back into the game proper.

You will be given a sub-genre and some prompts and then, should you choose to accept such a mission, you'll write a story. As there's no point, the story won't be judged unless you want me to do so.

The sub-genre for this second "duel" is Military SF, which I'm sure you know deals with military-themed science fiction. How does futuristic technology change the battlefield? How would an alien threat alter our own quarrels here on Earth? That's all up to you.

Your story must be at least 1,500 words. There is no maximum number of words.

The deadline for this "duel" will be July 22nd, 6:30 PM EST/10:30 PM UTC.

What is the reward you'll receive if you complete this "duel"? An advantage.

This is how it would work: If you manage to make it past Redemption Duel 3, which is the final duel, and re-enter the game, you'll have an advantage to be automatically used in Round 5. This advantage will raise your highest non-5/5 score to a 5/5. If you have a perfect 15/15 score, the advantage will make your score 16/15. Consider it to be like playing a long-term game.

1. You must include some kind of reference to Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" in some way. I'll leave it to you to decide how you do it.

2. You must utilize two of the following quotes to satisfy my Survivor fetish:

"I'm not sure what Avi's prerogative is. He's keen to catch some fish, but the moment it doesn't go his way he just has a little whinge about it. So I'm not sure... if he's used to sort of getting his own way too much, or... used to just writing creative stories about catching fish and he's always, y'know, very successful at it. 3. You must choose two of the following images to use however you see fit in your story:
