Alex and I walk into the gym early this fine morning for another good workout session. I mean every session is good, but you know what I mean. Post season baseball was just around the corner and we were excited to get something going. But I wanted to keep working and keep pushing so I would be ready. I know too much work isn't good for you but I know when it's too much. Only then will I lay back some.

We stretch out in the corner while singing along to whatever is on the radio while warming up. It was a hot late August morning and the AC was broken in the clubhouse so I was starting to think we shouldn't do cardio. It's still dangerous even though we weren't in the sun or anything. I was already sweating after just stretching and I could feel my skin boiling.

"Are you sure we should be here? It's really hot" I say picking myself off the ground before helping her up.

"High school football players are outside practicing right now. I think we're fine" she insists.

"Okay then, I trust you, what's first" I ask.

"How about a few miles on the treadmill" she suggests and I let out a long groan. I tell myself that this is helping and eventually step up.

"Please, contain your excitement" she laughs as she presses start and I roll my eyes.

We hop on the treadmill and get going. After about ten minutes I was sweating so bad but was at a comfortable pace so I didn't mind. If it wasn't so hot this wouldn't be so terrible. But it wasn't just hot, it was muggy and it made it hard to breathe.

"Getting tired" I tease as I notice her slow down.

"Not even close" she smirks. She turns up the speed and elevation and I match it. I loved it when she got all competitive. It was hot.

After twenty more minutes of that I started to feel it. I made sure I kept drinking but I quickly run out of Gatorade and have been without it for a while now. I look over to talk to Alex and see that she was completely pale. Her motions getting slower as she starts to get heavy footed. She would never stop before she reached whatever she put her mind too but for the first time ever she did not look good. She looked ill.

"Woah are you okay" I ask jumping onto the side of the treadmill and ending my session.

"I think I'm going to faint" she stays softly. I hop off my treadmill just in time to catch her as she falls off and into my arms. She felt freezing but was sweating like crazy. I lay her down as she starts to come to and tries to sit up. I lay her back down softly and she lets out a small groan.

"What's happening" I ask.

"Water" she squeaks. I grab the nearest water and lift her head up so she can drink. She gets some but was still pale.

"I'm taking you to a hospital" I announce and her eyes shoot open.

"Please, no" she whispers.

"Baby I can't help you. But you obviously need something so I'm taking you to the hospital" I say. I pick her up in my arms and quickly get her to the parking lot. I try to put her in the car but she's stops herself. She ends up throwing up all over the place right outside my car. It was pure acid and that didn't make me feel any better.

"Have you been sick at all lately" I ask sitting her in my car and she slowly nods. Maybe it was just the flu or something. God I hope it's just the flu or something.

After driving like a maniac to the hospital I carry her in and search for some help.

"Can I please have some help. My girlfriend passed out and I think she's severely over heated" I explain. They bring me a wheel chair and take her back while a nurse stays back to talk to me.

"So how did this happen" she asks.

"We were training and she just fainted. The ac broke down in the weight room but she insisted she was okay. At first she was fine but about thirty minutes in she turned pale and passed out" I recall.

"Was she drinking while working out?"

"Yes, she was taking drinks often."

"Okay. Has she said anything about not feeling well before today?"

"She's been nauseous and a little light headed but I figured it was just the heat" I shrug.

"Okay, anything else that might stick out that we need to know" she wonders.

"I'm sorry, but I have nothing" I sigh.

"It's okay. It sounds like she's highly dehydrated. While working out when it's this hot it's better to drink Gatorade to stay hydrated and prevent cramps. We'll get her some fluids and take good care of her. She should be fine" she explains and I nod.

I stay in the waiting room until someone comes to get me. It wasn't too long after we got there that they came out so that was good.

"Are you Kris Bryant" someone asks and I stand up. I'm met with a tall man in a long white lab coat. "Hello Mr. Bryant, I'm Dr. Tancy and I was just with Ms. Samuels. It seems as if she was very dehydrated and needed a break. She's hooked up to a iv and is coming to. We got her body temperate down but she was pushing 102 degrees. When it's hot like this it's extremely important to watch out for these kind of things. Any type of symptoms should be treated immediately. If you ever feel dizzy or feel cramping coming on it's important to stop" he explains.

"Of course. I'll make sure we're better about that. Can I see her" I wonder.

"Yeah, right this way" he says. I follow him to a room and see my girlfriend hooked up to a iv. I felt bad because this kind of sucks but I was really relieved it wasn't anything too bad.

"Hey kid" she smiles weakly and I laugh.

"You scared me half to death and that's how you greet me" I smirk.

"Well yeah. I figured I would keep the "thanks for saving my ass again" speech for later" she smiles.

"Are you feeling better? Are you going to be okay? Do I need to call your parents" I ask and she rolls her eyes.

"I'll be fine. Just don't know when to stop" she laughs dryly.

"Never do that again" I frown.

"Yeah, I'll check passing out off my to do list" she teases. I sit next to her as we wait for some more testing. They wanted to keep her for a little and I didn't want to leave so it looks like it was her and I for a while.
