Jon's POV

Dad and I hurried into the hospital and up to the maternity ward, using the code that Clary gave us to open the doors to get back to the room.

But, when we got to the room that was supposed to be hers, it was empty.

"Excuse me, where is Clarissa Morgenstern? She called and said she was here." I said to the blonde nurse at the nurses station.

"Your relation to Clarissa?"

"I'm her brother and this is her dad."

"Your sister was taken for surgery, her appendix burst and she needed an appendectomy and a C-section."

"Will she be okay?" Dad asked.

"I can try to get you an update. Um, the blonde guy that came in with her, he left this." She handed me a piece of paper and I unfolded it, reading it.

'Clary, I am so sorry for what I'm doing. I love you, with all my heart, and I always will. But, I'm not ready for this. Not ready to be a father, or a husband. I wish I could be the man you need and deserve, but I'm not. And, for that, I am truly, deeply sorry. I hope you'll be able to forgive me in the future, but I understand that you hate me right now. I left you alone with our little girl, you have more than enough reason to hate me. I apologize for everything I'm putting you through. I love you. -Jace.'

I scoffed and handed it to dad.

"That little fucker. I'm gona kill him." Dad spoke.

"I'll help." I looked back to the blonde. "I don't do well with cheaters or leavers. You don't leave your pregnant girlfriend."

"They were engaged. The asshole left his soon to be wife and child."

"That makes it even worse." I nodded.

"How are we gonna tell Clary?" I looked back at dad.

"I don't know."

I picked up my phone as it rang ans answered as I saw that it was Maryse. "Hello?"

"Hey, do you happen to know why Jace isn't answering my phone calls?"

"Probably because Clary is in surgery and Jace left her. Left a note saying how sorry he was, but that he wasn't ready to be a father or a husband."

"Oh god. Um, how is Clary? You said she's in surgery?"

"Yeah, something about her appendix and she needs a C-section."

"Can I come wait with you guys? I mean, Jace may not want to know his child, but I want to know my grandbaby. Please?"

"Sure. I'll see you soon. We're at Presbyterian." I hung up the phone and sighed. "Maryse is on her way."

"Clare may not be happy about that when she reads that letter." Dad said.

"So, when do you think that Clary will be out of surgery?" I asked the blonde.

"Probably an hour or so. She'll be moved to recovery, which is on the next floor up. You should wait there."

"Thank you." She nodded. "Well, I'll see you." She smiled.

"I guess so." Dad and I left and went upstairs, sitting in the waiting room for what felt like forever.

I just hope that my baby sister is okay.

"Family of Clarissa Morgenstern?" We stood up as a male doctor approached us.

"That's us."

"Clarissa is doing just fine." I let out a breath of relief. "She is sleeping comfortably in her room and the baby is thriving."

"Can we go hang out in her room?" I asked.

"Of course. She's in room 5078." We quickly thanked him and practically ran to the room.

When we got there, I smiled at the sight of my sister sleeping peacefully.

"Oh, little baby." Dad whispered as he walked to the clear bassinet, the baby was bundled up in a pink blanket and she was sleeping just as peacefully as her mommy.

"She's cute." I whispered.

"Are you kidding? She's beautiful." Dad leaned down and carefully picked her up, cradling her with his left arm and lightly rubbing her cheek with his right. "The spitting image of Clary."

"Jace?" I looked back at Clary as she started to wake up.

"Babe, it's Jon. I'm here." She squinted and opened her eyes.

"Where's Jace?"

"He, um, he left."

"Where'd he go?"

"I don't know. He left you, for good. Left a note saying that he was sorry, but that he wasn't ready to be a husband or a father. I'm so sorry, Clare." She closed her eyes and let the tears fall out.

"Is the baby okay?" She wiped at her eyes and dad sat down beside her, showing her the baby.

"Your beautiful little girl is doing great." She smiled and dad handed her the baby. "Have you picked a name yet?"

"Lily. Jace and I were between names, he wanted Fiona, I wanted Lily. So, Lily." Clare smiled down at Lily. "My beautiful baby girl. I will take care of you, without your daddy, Lily Grace Morgenstern."

"You don't need him, Clare, you have us. We'll be there for the both of you." Clare smiled up at dad.

"I know. Thanks." The blonde nurse walked in.

"Clary, how are you feeling?"

"Okay. I'm a little sore, but that's to be expected after a C-section and an appendectomy all at once."

"Yes, it is. Now, do you mind if I borrow your little girl so that we can run some tests and make sure that she is completely healthy?"

"Sure." Clare kissed Lily's head before letting the nurse take her.

"My name is Jasmine and I will be back with your sweet girl as soon as possible."

"Okay." Clary replied and watched as Jasmine left with Lily.

"Are you okay, Clare?"

"Nope. But, I will be. I have to be, for Lily."

"You're not alone in this, baby. Not by a long shot." Clare nodded to dad.

"I'm gonna go back to sleep for a little while."

"Okay. We'll leave you be for now." Dad and I left the room, but as soon as the door shut, I heard my baby sister burst into sobs.

"She doesn't deserve this." Dad said.

"I know."

"Hey, how's Clary?" Maryse rushed to us.

"Upset. We just told her about Jace leaving."

"How'd she take it?"

"She put on a brave face, but she's not okay."

"And, the baby?"

"She's fine, too. The nurse took her to do a few tests."

"Has Clary named her yet?" I nodded.

"Lily Grace Morgenstern."

"I love it. Can I see Clary?"

"No. She wanted to be left alone for a while."

"Then, I'll wait." I nodded and decided to go get some coffee for all of us.

We have a beautiful baby girl now.

I'm so happy......
