What was the hold up?" Zac asked as we met him and Sam at the car. Luke was still tense and clearly not happy, but he was more relaxed now. I was just glad I could convince him not to go after Connor because for a moment or two it looked like he was.
"Freya had a chat with her ex," Alex explained and Zac blew out a whistle.
"And how'd that go?" He asked, turning towards me.
I shrugged my shoulders. "Fine, I guess."
"Yeah, fine because Alex showed up," Luke added, his blue eyes staring hard at the ground.
Zac tilted his head at me, wanting to ask more questions but I just waved him off. "What's the plan today, anyways?"
"Well, today weren't we going to go to Jam for band practice..." Alex trailed off, and the guys attention quickly turned towards him. "Xavier told me about playing a gig this weekend..." A smile hinted on his face and instantly the mood lightened and a smile brightened Luke's face. Luke, Alex, Zac and Sam had formed a band when they were in Year Seven.
"Sweet," Sam said, leaning back against Alex's car. "What's the plan?"
"I planned out a setlist. It's on Saturday, the gig doesn't start till 8 o'clock." Alex said, but I shook my head.
"Is it alright if we go over to my house for a little while before we go wherever we're headed?" I asked, and the boys looked over at me.
"Why?" Alex asked, an edge to his voice. Sheesh.
"Because I need to feed my dog," I explained, and I could see him fighting a smile. "And she doesn't like it when I don't come home right away." Some of the boys chuckled at this and I crossed my arms. "What?"
"Nothing," Alex said, shrugging it off. "Your house it is." With that, the boys piled into the car and again I squished in the middle, but this time between Zac and Sam.

Sam blew out a whistle. "Nice place you've got here," he remarked, and he kicked off his shoes as long with the other boys.
"Thanks," I said. "I'm home!" I called out, and Zac tilted his head to the side.
"Your family home?" he asked. I shook my head, but before I could answer I heard Lucy barking.
"This is Lucy," I introduced them, giving Lucy a pat. Lucy was a border collie.
"Hey Lucy," Luke walked over and gave her a pat.
"You guys hungry?"
"No, I'm starving." Alex complained. "If you buy me pizza I swear you'll be the number one person in my book. Even higher than these guys."
Zac mocked a face of hurt, placing a hand to his chest. "But Alex," he said in a womanly voice.
"Enough, peasant, I have spoken." He put his hand in the air, as if to hush Zac.
I couldn't help but giggle at this. I would've never expected these guys who acted like such tough and mean guys at school could be so goofy and lame. I actually adored this side to them, I only wished they'd show it more often. I was starting to think that the guys definitely weren't as bad as they made themselves out to be. To me, it obviously seemed like front.
"Fine, I'll order pizza," I said, rolling my eyes.
"Get pepperoni!" Alex shouted after me as I ran into the kitchen. Lucy was right on my heels, hoping I was about to go get food so she could beg for it.
I reached for the pizza's order out menu and ordered two large pizzas, and like Alex asked, I got pepperoni. I have to admit, I was a huge push over to people I thought nice of. And, well, today I thought nice of Alex which is the only reason I was willing to do this. But I was going to hold this as black mail to him one day.
Lucy began whimpering at my feet and I reached down to rub her head. Since it'd be about half an hour until the pizza's made it to our house, I began grabbing plates out for the guys and I, and also grabbing a bunch of napkins... they looked like the kind of guys who'd be messy eaters. What was I thinking? All guys are messy eaters, and so I grabbed a few more napkins. I let out a sigh and went to my fridge, looking in and grabbing a 2-liter Coke bottle.
"Holy crap, you're loaded with food," I heard Luke chuckle from behind me, and I just grabbed another 2-liter out. This time it was lemomade.
"My parents always keeps this place supplied with as much food and junk as she can," I explained. "So if I bring friends home or my brothers do we can all just go and pig out."
Luke leaned against the counter behind him. "You never made friends that easy, have you?"
I walked over to him, setting the 2-liters down on the counter before turning to face him. "Well, it's not that. I just... I never felt the urge to go and hang out with people... I was always independent." I walked over towards one of the cabinets, now pulling out cups. "And, well, when I went out of my way to make friends, I never felt like I really fit in. Or if the people around me liked me. I just felt awkward, so I just got used to being by myself. That was before I met Hayley and Jordan. And now you."
Luke sat quietly listening to me, slowly nodding his head. "Yeah, well, when I first moved to Australia from England, I felt the same way. I didn't fit in well, so I kind of just went with the crowd. That is, until I started to hang out with Zac and Sam. And Alex." He let out a small chuckle, lost in a memory. "They helped me to realize it's cool to be different, and that no one can make you do stuff you don't want to do."
"I didn't know you weren't born in Australia," I said, sitting up on the counter beside him. "But that's cool, how you guys get along so well."
We heard footsteps behind us, and I looked around to see Alex walking towards us. "You guys order the pizza?" He looked between Luke and I, letting his eyes rest on Luke. Again, a secret message.
"Yeah," Luke said, his voice smooth.
"The pizza should be here soon, anyways. Call the guys to come down here because there's no way I'm letting you guys get pizza stains everywhere," I added, and Alex did a 180 to go back upstairs.
"You know, Alex does like you," Luke said, and that caught my attention. I turned towards him. "I mean, he doesn't show it well, and I know he can be a prick sometimes, but he does like you." I didn't say anything to that, I just looked straight forward again. I don't understand why I lose my voice at moments like this. "All of us really do like you. That's why we were so upset when you were with the popular group, we knew you were a nice girl and we didn't want them corrupting you." Luke shrugged his shoulders.
This time I didn't have time to respond because the door bell went off, so I just ruffled Luke's hair in response and I ignored his protests. I jogged over to the door, grabbing out money my dad left in the drawer for if I ever ordered take-out.
I soon returned to the kitchen, but now it was full of boys. I don't know when it turned into my job to be a babysitter for them all. Setting the pizzas down, I opened them both up figuring that they would be torn through quickly.
