Remus had finally found a good paying job as a babysitter. He'd just gotten out of his interview and wore the biggest smile on his face, he could start saving up for university as much as he could until the student debt consumed him.
The family he was working with was really nice. It would only be on the weekdays that he'd watch the kids all day. They had a little girl named Jema, who was four. Then her older brother, Damian, who was nine, and a baby named Noelle. The parents were really nice, two working women. Quinn worked within the law and that's all Remus knew, while Beth worked as a nurse practitioner somewhere.. he couldn't remember. But he was ready. He felt like he could really pull it off. Kids weren't.. so hard.
He could only hope. But Remus had headed off, taking a bus down to a street full of shops. There he got off at a coffee shop and ordered himself some tea before sitting down. Not five minutes after staring out the window, his phone rang. He picked it up quickly, knowing who it might be.
"Hi, I have a pizza ready for someone named Remus?" He raised an eyebrow, hearing stifled laughter in the background. "It's got peppers on it. It's a large pizza. Very large."
"Sirius, I know it's you, you bloody goof." Remus couldn't help but grin. "Next time you want to prank me, make sure you hide your contact from me. And you're terrible at prank calls." He informed.
Remus heard a scoff in response. "Remuuuus.. I thought I would've gotten you. I'm not terrible, James is just making silent sexual innuendos, so you couldn't see. He was trying to get me to mess up! So, I'm not terrible!" Sirius exclaimed. Remus had to hold the phone away from his ear.
"Calm your nips, Padfoot. I'm only teasing.. I'm glad you called though. I've got some pretty.. good news, I think." Remus smiled even wider.
"What's the news, love? Finally decide to have phone sex with me?" Sirius questioned and Remus almost choked on his tea, having taken a sip.
"W-What?" He stuttered. "No.. no. No phone.. sex." He said more quietly, his cheeks growing pink. "I finally found a job.."
"A job! That's amazing, Moons. I'm happy for you.. where at?" Sirius asked, and Remus felt warmed just by hearing how proud Sirius seemed to be.
"I've started babysitting for the Wildon family.. the parents work all week and go late into the day sometimes. It'll be weekdays, from when they leave to work, to when they come home. So pretty much the whole day.." Remus made sure to tell him, since now their plans might be hard to make.
"So... you're a nanny?" Sirius asked, but Remus could hear the smirk he was wearing on his face. He could even picture it in his head.
"I'm not a nanny, you git!"
"You sooo are! Bloody hell, this is fantastic.. Hey James! Remus is a nanny now!" Remus could hear Sirius cackling and James wheezing.
"I'm hanging up on you if you're going to continue to tease m-"
"A nanny! Hah, who knew!" Sirius went on. "Oh, this is perfect.."
"You know what? Bye." Remus hung up just as Sirius was getting ready to reply. He slammed his phone on the table and just stared out the window.
Remus had been proud of himself and Sirius laughed at him. Why did it matter what Remus was doing? It doesn't matter what he was doing to make money, he was going to make a lot of money! And Sirius really irked him and Remus didn't feel the need to talk about it any longer. He'd actually done something productive and Sirius laughed at him.
He just couldn't find what was so funny about him being a "nanny". Why did it have to be so funny? Was it because it was always a woman's job to look after children? If that was so, then Sirius needed to be more open minded.
