Breaking The Rules

Chpt. 22

I was not looking for forward to the police station. I had just gotten done talking to Al about Courtney. She was really upset.

Noah went home yesterday whenever my mother got back. He didn't want to give her a bad impression.

So now, I'm making my way to the police station.

"Mrs. Taylor, explain to me the night of Courtney's death. I know that you were with her that night." The same investigator that I talked to last night was sitting beside me, throwing out questions.

It took me a second to reply, "we were at a party.." I said truthfully. I am definitely not going to lie.

"Who's party?" The man said, holding his clipboard.

"Brent Allen's. We have the same last name, but we aren't related." I said, making sure he knew that.

"What was going on at this party? Were you with Courtney the whole time?" He asked.

"No, I went to the bathroom, and when I came back I couldn't find her." I said, leaving out the almost getting raped part.

"I called her brother to come get me, and he went inside to find Courtney and Al." I said.

"Allison?" He asked, seeming as if he knows who she is. "I'll be interviewing her too, so if you two tell me different stories, we might have a few issues." He glares at me.

"Anyways," I begin to say, "I found Courtney in the kitchen with her legs wrapped around... this boy" I said, trying my best to leave out what he did to me.

"What boy?" He asked, making me feel nauseous.

"I- I don't know" I stuttered, receiving a weird look from him.

"It seems as if you are too scared to tell me. Remember, telling the truth means you have nothing to worry about. So do you know who-"

"Yes" I said quietly.

He leaned closer to me.

"How do you know this boy Ms. Taylor?" He asked. "Does he go to your school?"

"No.."

"Then how?"

I swallowed my adrenaline in the back of my throat.

I looked up into the investigators eyes.

"All I have to tell you is, I know he is the one that caused the death of Courtney Allen."
