The Fight

Ed and I have been together for 9 months now, well sort of. We've actually been you know actually together for maybe 60 days on and off, so 2 months. I never knew being with him would be so hard. He's never here. I miss him a lot. But today is the day he will come home! Ed is going to come back to our home for the weekend before he has to go back on another business trip.
------------------------------------------------------------
Liza spent all day cooking cakes and some of Ed's favorite foods. She was so overwhelmed with joy. Then her phone rang. She squealed and ran over to the living room where her phone was resting on the coffee table.
"It's Ed!"
She picked up the phone and held it with both hands up to her ear.
"Teddy!" She screamed.
"Oh...um hey Liza."
"Teddy, what's wrong? You seem really upset." Liza said, a frown on her face.
"Um Liza, love I don't want you to be upset but,"
The smile faded from her face.
"I'm going to spend tonight with my mates at the pub...."
"Are you serious?!"
"Darling please don't be upset...."
"Oh sure why would I be upset Ed. Why the hell should I be upset?! I only spent hours baking for you and preparing your things for when you come home!"
"Liza please..."
"No Ed! No! You promised me that we would have this weekend together just the two of us! You promised!"
"Elizabeth!"
Liza cringed, he only used her full name when he was mad.
"My mates are important to me too! I hardly get to spend time with them!"
"Ed you are with them way more than with me!"
"LIZA! I'm a grown man! You can't control everything I do as much as you want to! I'm going with my mates and you can't stop me!"
"Ed! You don't understand! Today I just thought you were late but then you ditch me for your friends to get drunk, which means tomorrow you'll spend all day tomorrow laying in bed trying to get over your hangover! You promised me that you would be with me."
"Ok thanks for trusting me Liza. Thanks a lot. I would...."
"DONT EVEN BOTHER COMING HOME EDWARD, DONT EVEN COME HOME!"
"Fine Liza, I won't bloody come home then! See you in 4 months." With that he hung up the phone.

Liza had gone pale. She slammed her phone on the table, cracking the screen.
"What did I just do?" She whispered.
She turned around and cried. She cried and sobbed until there were no tears left. She screamed until her throat was raw. She lay down on Ed's side of the bed and hugged his pillow until she found sleep.

Liza woke to the sound of shuffling sheets. She sleepily sat up and rubbed her eyes. She turned to her right.
"Ed!"
She closed her eyes and threw her arms around him, but landed face first on his side of the bed. She pushed herself up, her mouth open in confusion. She looked up and saw him sitting on the arm of the couch. She ran to him laughing with her arms outstretched. Her eyes were wide open and full of tears of joy. She threw her arms around him but found herself grasping at nothing. She turned around, her smile gone. A tear fell, but not because of happiness.
"Ed?"
She ran to him once again, and again, and again. She wailed and screamed and cried. She shouted his name and spun around and around. Her world was a whirlwind, and Ed was nowhere to be found.
"Teddy?" She whimpered.
Then he appeared in front of her. She reached out to touch his cheek, but her hand went right through him.
"Teddy wha..."
"I'm not here."
"What do you..."
"I'm not here Liza"
"No, yes...yes you are you're right in front of me!"
"No Liza. I'm drunk in the pub with my mates. See you in 3 months."
"No"
"Three months"
"Three months"
"No"
His words kept echoing and repeating over and over again.
"No, no No! NO! Ed! Ed come back! Teddy!"
Everything went silent. Tears were streaming down Liza's face uncontrollably.
"I need you."
Liza was left all alone in the house. She cried in the corner just as she had when they first met, because of the storm. This was a different kind of storm, and there was no one there to comfort her this time.

Liza woke with a start. She gasped and sat straight up in their bed. Dry tears were streaked along her cheeks and down to her chin. She looked to her right at the empty spot where Ed slept is. She stroked his pillow with her hand.
Liza picked up her phone.
"Dead."
She had forgotten to plug it in.
She made her way to the kitchen but stopped in her tracks. She stepped backwards so that she had a clear view of the living room. And right there he stood, his back to her, looking in the mirror, adjusting his tie.
Liza covered her open mouth with both hands. Tears started to form in her eyes.
"Teddy?" She whispered.
Ed spun around on his heels. He was dressed in a suit, a rose in his hand. His face was solemn.
"Liza." He sighed.
Ed walked swiftly over to her from across the room, his blonde brows pinched together in a 'u' shape, his lips in a straight line. He dropped the rose out of his hand as Liza dropped her hands from her face. He cupped her face in his hands and pressed his lips against hers. He pulled away after a few seconds.
"Honey, I'm so sorry." He said with a pained expression on his face.
Liza looked at him and realized there were tears in his eyes.
"No," Liza said. "I'm sorry. I just really really miss you when you're gone Ed. I guess I just turned into that stupid clingy girlfriend." She said as she looked down in shame.
"No Liza." Ed said. He lifted her chin up with his fingers so that she was looking at him again.
"Liza I'm so sorry. I was...I was the biggest idiot ever. I guess everything's just getting to my head a little, but, but that's no excuse. I'm just so, so sorry. I...I love you Liza."
Liza opened her eyes wide and looked at him in shock.
"What did you just say?" She said.
"I love you Elizabeth Myers. I really, really do." He said, not letting go of Liza's face. A smile formed on his lips and a tear rolled down his cheek.
Liza smiled too.
"And I love you Edward Sheeran." She said as she wiped the tear away with her thumb.
Ed put his hand on hers which was still on his face. He pulled her hand down and held her hands in his.
"I really wish I could be here more baby, I really do, but I'm touring Europe and it's..."
Liza cut him off and dropped her hands to her sides, her smile replaced with shock.
"What do you mean touring Europe Ed?"
Ed's face went blank and he stared at the ground.
"Ed...what the hell do you mean touring Europe." Liza said, raising her voice.
"I've been meaning to tell you Liza."
"Tell me what?!" Liza shouted.
"I...I'm a singer. I sing love."
"Don't you love me, you have explaining to do!"
Ed reached for her hands and she ripped them away from him. His eyes began to fill with tears.
"Liza, I um...my...my first album came out a few years before I met you. I was so excited that you didn't recognize me, so that you wouldn't just be in because..."
"Because what Ed?" Liza's back was to Ed but he could still tell she was trying hard not to cry.
"Because I was rich and...famous I guess."
"That's why you were so happy when I said I hated social media, because you knew I wouldn't find out...." Liza paused to stop from crying. "...how many people were at your last show?" She said angrily.
"Liza please..." Ed reached for Liza's shoulder, but she pushed his hand away and spun around to face him. Tears were streaming down her face and she was shaking uncontrollably.
"Oh baby..." he said as a tear fell down his cheek.
"How many?!" She screamed at him.
"240 thousand at Wembly Stadium." He said as he hung his head, not bothering to wipe the tears away.
"Why...why Ed?! Why did you keep this from..." she stopped and drew in a sharp breath. "You thought...oh my god Ed. Oh my god. You..." tears rolled down her cheeks as her voice broke, "You thought that as soon as I found out that I would only be in for the money and fame."
"No, no baby of course not." Ed said lifting his head up, tears streaming down his face.
"Then why?" Liza could barely get the words out.
"I...I thought you would leave me." He hung his head.
He looked up at her.
"You coward." Liza said through gritted teeth.
"You lied to me Ed! How would you feel if you found out that you never actually knew where the person you love more than anything else was? Huh?! How would you feel?! How would you feel if your whole relationship was one giant lie?!."
"Baby please, I'm so sorry." Ed could barely get the words out. He was crying more then he ever had before. He loves Liza more than his music, his career, he would leave that all behind in a second if she asked.
"Sorry isn't enough this time Ed." She said as she stormed upstairs to his room.
Ed chased after her tripping over himself because the tears in his eyes were blurring his vision.
"Liza!"
He tripped over the stairs.
"Liza! Where are you going?!"
"I'm leaving Ed. Goodbye." Liza said as she pushed him, trying to go back down the stairs.
The push caused Ed to lose his footing, and his hand reached for the railing, but missed. He tumbled down the stairs one at a time before finally reaching the bottom.
Liza turned around after she had heard the sound of a loud crack.
"Oh my god."
She dropped her bag and ran to him. He had smashed his head into the corner of the wall near the kitchen.
"Oh my god what did I just do?! Ed, baby can you hear me? Ed?!"
She knelt down and put her head to his chest, his heartbeat was slow.
"Ed baby, it's Liza can you hear me?" She whispered into his ear.
He was knocked out cold.
It's ok. There's no need to freak. This happens to people all the time. He just needs some rest.
"Ok Teddy I'm just gonna lay you on the couch. You're gonna be alright." Liza said, her voice wavering from worry.
She lifted his head for support, but felt something warm and sticky. She gently put his head down on the floor and brought her hand up.
"Oh my go...oh no no no no Teddy you're ok you're alright." Her hands were covered in blood along with the wall and a pool of it beneath his head. The bleeding wasn't stopping. She lifted his head up and looked at it.
"No no no no."
The cut was huge and deep. Very deep. Liza searched the pockets of his now dirty suit and found his phone. She dialed 911.
"Hello?" She said crying.
"911 what is your emergency?"
"My boyfriend he...I...he's unconscious there's blood everywhere. Please I need an ambulance."
"What happened ma'm?"
"I...it was an accident." She began so sob.
"Miss please speak more clearly."
"He fell down the stairs and hit his head. He's been out for almost 10 minutes now. The cut...it's deep."
"Ok young lady, can you give me the address?"
Liza gave the address and waited for them to come.
"It's ok baby, you're gonna be ok. Teddy, oh please wake up!"
Liza lay crying on Ed's chest until the ambulance came.
----------------------------------
There was pounding at the front door and Liza ran to unlock it.
The crew ran in and took Ed away on a stretcher.
"Are you his closest family miss?" A man asked her.
"Yes I'm his girlfriend."
"Would you like to ride in the ambulance?"
"Yes...yes of course."
The ride to the hospital was horrible. The men and women in the ambulance wouldn't stop yelling and frantically sticking needles in Ed, which made Liza even more worried.
"What did I do?" She whispered.
----------------------------------------
Liza had been sitting in his room for hours waiting for him to wake up. She was biting her nails in the chair she had pulled up to his bedside. She was looking at him longingly as she stroked his hand. She perked up when she heard a faint groan.
"Teddy?" She whispered hopefully.
"Hmmm?" He groaned.
"Oh my god Ed!" Liza threw her arms around him and sobbed.
"Oh Ed, I'm soooo soooo sorry. I didn't mean any of those horrible things I said. I'm so proud of you and your music and I'm...im just so so sorry."
"Am I still dreaming?"
"No, no silly you're not still dreaming. You're eyes are open." She said smiling.
"What?"
"What's wrong baby?"
"This is a dream. Liza. Liza! Liza help!"
"Teddy what is it?! I'm right here" Liza's brows were furrowed and her face strewn with worry.
"Liza where are you?!" He shouted, tears falling down his face.
"Teddy! Teddy calm down! Look feel my hand. Do you feel my hand on your face?"
"Yes I do. I feel it." He still looked like he'd seen a ghost.
"Then why are you still freaking out?"
"Liza..."
"What is it?"
"Come where I can see your face."
"Ed, I'm right here. Look, look my hand is in yours," Liza kissed his nose. "Baby, I'm right here. You're ok." She said inches from his face.
"Liza can you hear me? Liza?!"
"Yes oh my goodness what's wrong with you Ed?!"
"Liza wake me up. Wake me up!" He was grabbing for her and pulling at her clothes. Tears were falling down his face.
"Ed you're awake! You're looking right at me!"
"Liza...I can't see you."
Liza pulled back from him.
"Wha- what do you mean you can't see me?"
"Liza I'm scared."
"Ed I'm right here, I'm right in front of you." She waved her hand in his face.
"Liza I can't see."
She walked out of the room crying her eyes out. Calling for a doctor or a nurse or anyone who could help. The next day they concluded that the internal bleeding caused Ed to lose his sight. There was little hope he would ever get it back.

Liza drove home in silence, tears falling down her cheeks and dripping off her chin. She would never forgive herself.
Suddenly Ex spoke, "You want to know my favorite song that I wrote?"
Liza sniffled, "What?"
He reached for her hand, but missed, grabbing her stomach. She stopped the car and held his hand.
"It's called Perfect."
Liza stared at him, hopeful.
"I wrote it about you. Most of my new songs are about you actually."
"Thank you baby."
Ed stared blankly ahead at nothing.
"Could you sing it for me Teddy?"
"I can't sing my own song!" He smiled
"Why not?"
"It's weird." He laughed.
"No it's not. Pleeaassseeee?" She begged.

"I found a love for me
Darling just dive right in
And follow my lead
Well I found a girl beautiful and sweet
I never knew you were the someone waiting for me
'Cause we were just kids when we fell in love
Not knowing what it was
I will not give you up this time
But darling, just kiss me slow, your heart is all I own
And in your eyes you're holding mine
Baby, I'm dancing in the dark with you between my arms
Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song
When you said you looked a mess, I whispered underneath my breath
But you heard it, darling, you look perfect tonight."

A tear fell down Liza's cheek.
"It's beautiful."
She realized she had never heard him sing before and she wanted to hear his voice all the time. It was, well, perfect.
She looked back up at him and he was crying.
"Aww Teddy what's wrong?"
He sniffled, "I can't perform anymore. I have to stop."
"Ed why would you say that? I support you, there's no need to quit."
"Liza...baby I'm blind. I can't perform. This is the worst thing..."
Liza couldn't keep her crying silent anymore.
"Baby I'm so sorry! If I hadn't been....agh I did this to you! I ruined your livelihood! Your life is ... I can't live with myself."
"Now would be the time where i say no you're my livelihood I don't want to do gigs and shows, but I really do. It's like, it's like a part of me is just...gone."
Ed and Liza got home and Liza put Ed's arm around her and guided him to his bed. She was so heartbroken. She ruined Ed'a life.

He had to cancel his tour and announced that he would no longer be making music. He was heartbroken too. He fell into a deep sadness, one that Liza knew all too well. Everyday she prayed that he would get better and regain his sight. And finally after 3 months, it did.
He announced that he would be going back on tour and would continue to make music, and he thanked his fans for being so patient and supportive. Liza went on tour with him and they were finally happy.
Liza grew more and more impatient as his birthday grew near. She wanted it to be the best one ever.
