Ed and Liza had been planning this dinner for almost a year. Liza would have been excited, but the dinner was scheduled before her...problem started. Instead Liza was very nervous.
Liza got her black dress from her closet,
Black makes everyone look good right?
She thought.
She slipped off Ed's baggy t-shirt and fastened the buttons in the back of her dress. She had to suck in a little to fit.
She walked over to the mirror that hung on the back of the bedroom door and looked at herself. She frowned. She turned so that she could see her side and stuck out her rear end. She faced forward again and massaged her stomach. There was fat where there wasn't before.
I'm so fat. How could Ed love someone as ugly as me?
"You look stunning."
Liza jumped and spun around. She had been so immersed in her thoughts that she hadn't noticed Ed sneak up behind her.
"Did I startle you?" Ed smiled.
"Yeah a little." Liza admitted sheepishly.
"Shall we?" Ed questioned, motioning to the door.
Liza nodded.
____________________________________They arrived at the restaurant hand in hand and the waiter led them to their private table. Ed pulled out a chair for Liza and she sat. He then went around the table and sat on his own.
"What would you like sir?" The waiter asked.
"Hmmmm." Ed mused looking at the menu.
He looked up at Liza.
"What would you like, Love?" He asked her.
"Oh, uh...just water is fine."
Ed looked at her questioningly. He decided not to ask.
"I'll have the grilled sirloin please. Oh! And with a side of ketchup." Ed said enthusiastically.
"Ketchup?" The waiter said, seeming sort of offended for some reason. "We do not have ketchup here sir."
"What?" Ed said shocked. "No one's too good for ketchup, ketchup's too good for you." He said with a huff.
"Very well," said the waiter. "Will that be all?"
"Yes." Liza answered quickly.
Liza and Ed had an amazing time talking about Ed's crazy love for ketchup, and many other things. Before long, the dinner was over.
____________________________________They drove home and Liza insisted on listening to Castle on the Hill about 100 times, even though she knew Ed felt weird listening to his own songs. He loved it when she jammed out to music though, so he didn't say anything, instead he smiled.
When they got home, Ed opened the door and ushered for Liza to go in. He placed the keys in their dish and kissed Liza's cheek.
"Did you enjoy your....." Ed stopped and made a puzzled looking face. "Elizabeth?" He asked looking at her.
"Yes?" Liza asked looking into his beautiful eyes.
"Why..." he paused and opened his mouth to say something, but closed it again to rephrase his sentence. "Why didn't you eat?"
Liza stopped dead in her tracks. He face had gone pale in a matter of seconds and she tensed up.
"I..." She didn't know what to say.
Ed didn't think it was a very big deal until he saw Liza's reaction. He knew exactly why she hadn't eaten, and thinking back on the last few weeks, he realized she hadn't eaten at all. His eyes widened and he looked right at Liza who hadn't moved.
"Baby..." He said tearing up, "are you...are you starving yourself?" His voice broke on the last word.
Liza looked down in shame and hung her head as low as it could go so that Ed couldn't see the tears.
He rushed towards her and wrapped his arms around her. She sobbed into his shoulder.
"Is it because you think you're fat?" He whispered, barely able to hold back the tears forming in his eyes.
He could feel Liza's head nod against his chest.
"It's because...I'm fat, and ugly, and worthless, and....I-I-I just hate myself so much." Liza sobbed.
"No," Ed whispered softly, lifting her chin up so she could meet his glassy eyes.
"Look at me Liza. You are absolutely stunning, and amazing. You are beautiful and pure, and kind hearted. I wouldn't want to spend my life with anyone else. I-don't know what else to say. You mean the world to me, my beautiful wife." He took her hand and stroked her ring.
Liza's lips parted the slightest bit and a small smile formed. Before they knew it, their lips were tangled in each other's.
"You always know what to say Teddy." Liza whispered into his messy ginger hair.I just want to say that there is no such thing as too fat, too skinny, to pale, to dark, to muscular, to stick-like. You are beautiful just the way you are and no amount of cosmetics or surgery can make you any more beautiful, because you are already as beautiful as can be. I love all of you💕😘
