Dixie's POV:
I watched as they both seemed to look at each other and then back at me. Perhaps I've asked too private a question. I clear my throat a bit as I feel my face flush some, I hope this doesn't put me back on bad terms with Jacob. I was happy for his words of approval a moment ago.
"Sorry, I don't mean to pry. I was just curious." (D)
"No, it's alright. Jake do you want to explain it?" (N)
"Sure, why not. Nessie is my imprint." (J)
"Oh, ok. Umm what's an imprint?" (D)
"It's, well she's my soul mate you could say. The Quileute tribe has always had legends about them. She's the most important, the only important thing in my life. She has been since her birth, which is when I first saw her. We would have told you earlier today, but the age gap seems to bother some people." (J)
"How old are you?" (D)
"I'll be 70 this year." (J)
"I'll be 53 in a few months." (N)
"Really? Guess you aged as quickly as I did then, and that you Jacob don't age much at all. I don't find the age gap any weirder than a few of the nomads relationships I've come across. For a species that never ages, it doesn't really matter does it? Now I don't know if I've ever believed in soul mates like that honestly, but I also didn't think a shape-shifter was real either. Guess I'm wrong about both." (D)
"You should definitely believe in soul mates, you might be surprised by yours one day." (N)
I hear Jake stop coughing in the mirror but before I can ask if he's ok, Nessie starts rolling her eyes and reaches for his hand. His coughing stops but I hear him let out an exasperated sigh from the back seat before she lets go and smiles. He is definitely wrapped around her finger that's for sure. I smile some as I realize what he said about the shape-shifters protecting humans from vampires, making them natural enemies. The irony of it makes me laugh some, causing them both to look at me curiously.
"Forgive me, but I just realized that your natural enemies are vampires, and your soul mate is half-vampire. Ironic fate if I've ever seen it." (D)
I see them look at me again and then join in my soft laughter, though I'm sure it's not the first time it's been pointed out to them. Rather they find my amusement of it entertaining. A few more minutes go by in quiet happiness before we arrive back at the Cullen's house. We pull up and are met at the door by Alice, who greets us all with a smile and a hug.
"Have a good trip? I would bet yes based on your eyes." (A)
"Yes we did. Thank you Alice. I couldn't help but overhear you earlier before we left, and I picked up some nail polish for you and Rose. I don't know what you'd like, but I got a few different colors." (D)
I handed her the nail polish and watched as an excited little squeal left her lips before she crushes me into a hug. I smile as I think that she likes the nail polish. I see Edward standing in the corner smiling at her and laughing a bit, nodding his head as I question in my head if she truly likes the gift. She thanks me once more before rushing upstairs. I had more for Rosalee and Bella, and give them each a bag as well.
Rosalee comes up next to thank me and hugs me as well. Bella says her thanks from across the room, but I've come to realize she's not being put-offish. She's just not much of a hugger it seems. I listen closely and hear Esme humming in the kitchen and I decide to see her before I leave for the night. I walk in to find her stirring what looks and smells like chili.
"Esme?" (D)
She turns toward me and offers me the same kind smile that she always has for me before adding something else to the chili. She turns back to me and leans across the counter toward me as she looks at me with another smile.
"Hello dear. I'm glad your hunting went well tonight. Would you like to stay for dinner?" (E)
"Oh, thank you ma'am but I'm too full to eat anything tonight. I...umm....well I found this in a boutique we went to and I thought you might like it. It's not much, nothing close to what I should give you for being so kind to me." (D)
I hand her the small crystal vase and see her smile, her eyes becoming brighter and I know that if she could she would be crying right now. Though I'm not really sure for what reason, I owe her more than I could ever repay her and we've only known each other for a day or two. She puts the vase down on the table carefully before giving me a hug. I hug her back, and smile thinking how much I've missed interactions like these.
"It's lovely dear and you don't have to thank me for anything. It's a joy to have you here, in fact Carlisle and I would like to talk to you a bit more when you're ready." (E)
I don't say anything as I wonder what she's talking about, but I nod and smile as looks at me. I hear Jacob and Nessie walk into the kitchen just as Esme picks up the vase to take upstairs. She tells them to help themselves to the chili and I watch as Jacob fist pumps the air before running to grab a bowl. I laugh a bit while Nessie rolls her eyes.
"I got something for you too Nessie, though you've already seen it." (D)
I hand her the stationary and she squeals just like Alice did and jumps at me to give me a hug. I barely have time to brace myself and keep us from falling on the floor as she laughs and thanks me again and again. I simply laugh and tell her it's a gift for going with me tonight. Jacob eventually pulls her off, telling her she's going to suffocate me. I offer him a small smile in thanks as she rolls her eyes some.
I say goodnight to them as I leave the kitchen, thinking that Jacob has no idea what type of turmoil he's headed for. She may be 53 but I bet she's just hitting the rebellious teenage girl years, and a teenager even a half-vampire one, is a handful in every way. I hear Edward offer a low moan as I pass through the living room, reading my thoughts no doubt. I laugh a bit, thinking of all the trouble I put the James through, especially Frank when I was Nessie's age, and he only moans again in response. I laugh again before heading out, shutting the door as I go.
I'm home before I know it, taking a shower with a smile on my face. I haven't been this happy, this peaceful, in nearly eighty years. It's so.....refreshing to be so happy. I change into pjs, listening to the rain as it falls gently onto the roof, still smiling as it does. The only thing that edges me out of my happiness a bit as I fall asleep, is the fact that Renesmee didn't tell me where she had gotten the photo of my wolf. The very wolf that's in my dream again tonight.
Seth's POV:I had meant to check in with Jake earlier, but when I did finally call him he was too busy stuffing his mouth full of chili to talk and handed the phone to Nessie instead. I asked how it went and she instantly told me it was wonderful and that the girl was beautiful and that she couldn't wait until I met her. She was about to tell me something else until Jake took the phone away from her.
"Seth, how you doing man?" (J)
"Oh you know, worried when my Alpha didn't answer any of my texts earlier when he was meeting a new vampire. Otherwise I'm just peachy." (S)
I hear him laugh before apologizing, saying that everything was fine. He told I should stop by the house tomorrow and maybe I'd meet the new one. I began to grow curious as to why they were both so eager for me to meet the girl but I figured why not. If she decides to stay with the Cullen's it's not like we won't meet eventually. I tell them both goodnight before I end the call.
I put my phone on the charger before I lay down and close my eyes. I smile in my sleep as I realize that she's here again in my dream. I hear her laugh and I see her dart through the trees to the clearing. I smile and laugh as I chase after her, watching as her curls that hang down her back bounce as she runs. Her tan skin shimmering in the sun as she runs out into the clearing.
I catch her in my arms and we both fall into the tall grass and surrounding flowers. I laugh with her as I hold her close, never wanting to wake but wanting her in real life as well. My beautiful little angel, my imprint.
