Esme's POV:

Dixie didn't wake up for another day, but she didn't have any more seizures either. I sat by her side with Carlisle the entire time, telling him how we found her and what happened. He agreed with me that whatever happened that night broke her heart. I saw her eyes flutter some and I felt myself sigh in relief as I thought she was waking up.

"What....NO! NO! No,no,no,no,no stop stop stop please. You'll kill her no please no." (D)

"Dixie?!?" (E)

Carlisle was at her side in an instant as I was before Edward and Jasper came running into the room as well. We both tried to calm her but she kept pulling away from us and begging an invisible force to stop as tears fell from her eyes.

"She's hallucinating that Angel is hurting Esme." (Ed)

"Hallucinating? Carlisle?" (E)

"Delirium tremens. I was afraid that her withdrawel would be worse than it was the first time she said she went through it, but I was hoping it wouldn't be this bad. This will take a few days for her body to detox itself. I'll have to monitor her closely to make sure it doesn't shut down." (C)

"I've never felt so much fear and pain.....I....I'll try to calm her but I don't know if I can." (Jas)

"Momma!" (D)

"Dixie, I'm here honey I'm here." (E)

"Mo-momma? Where.....how....?" (D)

"You agreed to come back home with me remember? We're in your room and Carlisle is going to look after you." (E)

"Sh-shouldn't-" (D)

I feel her temperature increase as she starts to shake in my arms. I see Carlisle rush over as her eyes start to close again. She looks back up at me one more time before her eyes close. I look to Edward to see what she was thinking before she closed his eyes and he's staring at her with a look of utmost pity.

"She was thinking it would be better to die than be such a burden to you and to Carlisle. She was worried you'd realize that and that when she woke up again you wouldn't be beside her." (Ed)

I felt my unbeating heart break as I looked down at my newest daughter, wondering how she could think that about herself. Carlisle lays a cloth soaked in alcohol over her forehead before injecting a few shots into her arm, but we both know that with her the shots are not a sure thing. I stay by her side the rest of the night and the next day, never more grateful that I don't need sleep or food or anything else that would pull me away from her.

Rose came in and sat with me for a few hours, Emmett as well, all of us looking at Dixie in silence as the hours passed. Seeing her flinch in pain as her heartbeat, still unsure of the reason why. Carlisle was searching for the reason why as well, but had yet to find a reason for it. Though our knowledge of hybrids is so limited as it is. She had been asleep for over 38 hours when I saw her eyes start to open.

Carlisle was still at work, but I knew that I could handle most anything if it were to happen. I see her open her eyes and look around the room before her eyes find me. I offer her a gentle smile as she looks at me with slight confusion on her face before she speaks to me in a vice barely above a whisper.

"You didn't leave." (D)

"Dixie I would never leave your side when you needed me this badly. You're my daughter now and I love you just as much as I would any child of mine." (E)

I saw tears well in her eyes as she started to sit up and I pulled her closer to me as her arms clung to me. I felt her tears dampen my shirt as I stroked her hair, trying to calm her. I can only imagine that she will be thankful that everyone else is at school right now. She finally pulls away from me wiping the remaining tears before she looks at me.
